am going to be in london on the 11th dec due to comedic duties.

is there somewhere you know of that will be showing the fight?

or am i being absurdly optimistic?

It will be at about 4am wont it? And pay-per-view? Not much chance of it being in a pub or club then. You may have to find a lock in, or a private house.

When you get to London, go and join Riley's in Victoria, they show all the fights there. Sadly the bar will be shut, but you can get a few in before 11 and drink them later I guess.

But your membership applies to all Rileys clubs nationwide for 12 months, so if you're partial to a bit of snooker or pool...

exactamundo! Bloody good value for money. Also means you can go and watch all the big fights there if you have nowhere better to watch it.

I used to practically live in the Rileys in Bournemouth and knew all of the staff (the female manager in the biblical sense - ah happy, single days ), which was handy for getting served a few 'non-alcoholic' milkshakes after hours.

The other trick (spot the ex-pikey student) was to take in an empty 2ltr pop bottle and order 2 4pt pitchers as they called time. Drink one and seal the other up in the bottle. Not so good if you only drink larger, but bitter's supposed to be warm and a bit flat anyway...

You might have to ask them to turn the sound on if you want comentary. Every Rileys I've ever been in, the staff who are stuck on night just put on whatever music they want to hear and mute the telly.

Anybody know owt about Shoeless Joes? I remember they did the Tyson-Botha punditry from there (and it being a practically inaudible fiasco), but I always assumed they might show all the fights there.

Shoeless Joes is now a Walkabout.

I assume that means only bad things.

So is this a common thing for Rileys, ie. staying open for boxing? Is it just fight nights or do they stay open anyway?

Phoenix - yep, I think they're all 24hrs. Staggering back from a club for a few games of 9ball is one of life's simple pleasures.

deadpan - yep, it's a bad thing. Overpriced, souless, cheesy and full of the type of people who go clubbing in trousers and shoes (with respect to anyone on these boards who goes clubbing in trousers and shoes... ). I'm assured, by rugger-bugger mates, that it's good when the internationals are on but even then, they're all Union softies and I'm more of a League man myself.

i worked in the covent garden walkabout for a year or two doing security there...
worst day ever was the 8am till 11pm shift the day England beat Aus in the union world cup..... so many drunk tossers who had to be thrown out....

The temple walkabout is pretty naff..... doesnt have the vibe that covent garden used to have and that shepherd bush has on a sunday night

I used to live behind the Walkabout in Bush, what a dreadful godawful place. Always rivers of piss and puke meandering toward the kerb at kicking out time, and there was always an ambulance parked outside. A loathsome odious place.

What amazes me that despite the huge levels of noise, puke, blood, vomit and seamen which emanated from the place late at night, it never got closed down.

And yet, a mate of mine who ran a club UNDERNEATH shepherd's bush green, was denied a late license, because residents complained about noise.

I don't even remember that one.....

Believe me, living behind the walkabout was no laughing matter.

Long-shot, but do any of you Londoners who went to Shoeless Joes (now Walkabout) remember a Canadian doorman who worked there for a while (and may still be in that area)? We did a bit of work overseas a while back, but I lost contact.
