"Manny Pacquiao's camp fears boxer suffered potentially career-ending eye injury"

Manny Pacquiao seemed set for a rematch against Floyd Mayweather after easily dispatching Adrien Broner on Saturday, but those plans might have to be put on hold, potentially for good.

Some in the 40-year-old Pacquiao’s camp fear that the boxer might have suffered a detached retina after he complained of pain and vision loss in his left eye on Sunday morning, according to the New York Daily News’ Wallace Matthews. Pacquiao is reportedly scheduled to fly home to the Philippines to see an eye specialist.

Matthews also reported a different source in Pacquiao’s camp claimed the injury was a minor corneal scratch from the tape on Broner’s gloves.

If Pacquiao is indeed diagnosed with a detached retina, it would likely derail not just a potential future matchup against Mayweather, but Pacquiao’s entire boxing career.

This development is shocking given that Pacquiao seemed to have no trouble dispatching Broner, no matter what his opponent claimed after the fight. The win improved the Filipino senator’s boxing record to 61-7-2 and showed that he still had a little left in the tank.

As if the development of a potentially serious eye injury wasn’t enough, Pacquiao also reportedly discovered that a safe in his Los Angeles home containing thousands in cash and jewelry had been plundered. Police responded to an apparent break-in Saturday night when they noticed the door was left open during the fight, the house having been left empty by Pacquiao’s entourage.

"Manny Pacquiao Says Injury To His Left Eye is Not Serious"

According to GMA News, WBA "regular" welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao suffered a minor injury to his left eye following his twelve round decision win over former four division world champion Adrien Broner.

The contest took place on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The Filipino superstar says the injury happened after his eyeball was scratched by Broner's glove.

Pacquiao assured everyone that his eye injury was not serious, adding that it will heal after three to four days.

"It's okay, it's just what my eyes are watering. It's a scratch to my eyeball ... I've been through this with the right [eye]. Now it's on the left," Pacquiao said to GMA.

"There's no clutter, it's really a scratch, it's just a bit of a medicine [needed]... It's okay, God is good, we just have to rest, it's easy to heal the scratch in the eyeball."

Thoughts? :-?

Manny doesn't need to fight any more. He's proven all that needs to be proven and has enough money to last 100 lifetimes. The first fight against Mayweather was waaaaaayyyyy too late, due to the totally crappy "scared of needles" excuse. A second fight between them is now irrelevant. The best welters are Crawford and Spence and neither Pacman or Mayweather could beat them at the moment, so their proposed match-up means nothing p4p or career wise.

So, if it ends this way, with a detached retina, then that's OK. No need to see Pacman fighting on till he gets run-over by a truck (figuratively).

It doesn't seem like a detached retina is as serious as it was years ago.

At one time it was considered career ending. But advances in surgery have pretty much done away with that dire prognosis.

Remember Ray Leonard? Even back in the 80s, he bounced back from a detached retina.

So no matter what night be wrong with Pacquiao's eye, I'm certain he'll be able to continue.

And I'm sure he wants to. Considering his tax debt situation (along with the ongoing stories of undisciplined spending) it appears that Pacquiao needs to continue.

What the fvck did he spend his money on? He could feed Malaysia with rice for centuries with what he's earned.

It's worse than that. Pacquiao owes tens of millions of dollars of unpaid tax to both the US and Filipino governments.

That is so tragic. A man who prepares himself so well for the battle inside the ring, prepares himself so badly for the battles outside the ring.

Word from Pacquiao's camp is that it's just a scratched cornea.
