Was Jersey Joe Walcott in his 'mid-40's" ?
Was Ezzard Charles "40 years old" ?
was Archie Moore actually "45 years old".
(math wasn't my strongest subject in school,so maybe someone else here can figure out the actual ages of the Boxers and during the dates of fights,
according to the stats on Boxrec anyway).

Going by the dates listed above:
Louis was 37
Walcott was 38 for first fight, 39 for the second.
Charles was 32 for the first fight, 33 for the second
Moore was 38

( and none of them were over 40 years old , despite the claim there in the video from someone "Who Knows a Lot About Boxing".
( also kind of strange that Jersey Joe Walcott and Archie Moore never fought given their long boxing careers and that there around the same age)
Louis was clearly well past his best. However Moore is the exception the rule when it comes to age. He was in his prime when he fought Marciano. Walcott was close his best for their first fight.

Joe Louis was just about 2 and half years older then Archie Moore.
When Moore turned pro in 1935 ( at 150 lbs)his main future objective was to fight Joe Louis for the title.
In 1945 at age 30 years old Moore campaigned as a light-Heavyweight (5 ft 11 " and 172 lbs)
and goal again was to fight Joe Louis.
Moore fought a lot of Heavyweights from that point on.
I think a good time would have been when Louis made his comeback
in 1949-50 but it never happened. Moore's walking around weight then was about 200 lbs.
If Rocky Marciano fight a past prime uncrowned champion fighter and Hall of Famer in Jimmy Bivins, Rocky would stop him badly just like he stopped and knocked out other Hall of Fame rivals for both men. If Rocky fought a prime version of Bivins, Bivins would try to put up a good fight on Rocky, but Rocky would wear him down and knock him out in 10 rounds.
And why is that the Boxing "critics' didn't also hold Rocky Marciano's "Youth and Inexperience"
against him when he fought all of those All Time Greats (and won) ?

Here is a (almost) 26 year old Joe Louis fighting another Charlie Goldman trained fighter in 1940.
Here is Joe Louis 11 years later fighting another Charlie Goldman trained fighter using the same-type of Bobbing and Weaving fighting style.( but fighting more in close quarters with a lot more pressure and power punching).
I have a lot of my uncle's old The Ring magazines from back then... They were actively campaigning for the Moore fight. He was considered a big threat going in.
Walcott was champ when he fought Rocky the first time. And Charles was on the wrong end of a bad decision when he lost to Walcott 2 years previous.
here is the rematch a few months later (doesn't look like Godoy got as low in a crouching fighting position in this one.
and Joe Louis used a lot more left and right upper-cuts in this fight to straighten him up.

There used to be a website on Marciano covering all the stats, facts--- but it's long since gone--- and one of the topics of discussion on it was, "Did Rocky Beat Old Men?", and it did some comparisons between Marciano's most notable opponents versus Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, etc and their most memorable opponents.
Ali's average came out to 15 years age difference--- guys like Henry Cooper, Archie Moore, Sonny Liston, etc were a decade (or more) older than he was.
So in all fairness, if Marciano fought old men then Ali fought decrepit old men. Williams, for example, was born in 1933 and Ali was born in 1942, so 9 years difference. Patterson, born in 1935 was 7 years older than Ali. Chuvalo, born 1937, was five years older. Brian London, born 1934, was 8 years older. Zora Folley, born 1931, was 11 years older. Etc etc etc.

There are some reports that Sonny Liston was 49 years old in February 1964
and just turned 50 years old while training at Poland Springs at Lewiston Maine in early May 1965.
