I think Bennie stops Tommy late. Briscoe is one guy Hearns doesn't want to mess with at 160.

Hearns would beat him like a drum, resulting in a wide decision or a late stoppage. Bennie was good, but he was no Hagler.

Hearns by wide decision, he punches hard enough to keep Briscoe respectful and boxes well enough to keep a step ahead. But as ever with Hearns there's a chance he gets nailed by someone as good as Briscoe. But UD for Hearns would be my confident pick, over 10, 12 or 15 rounds.

Only the puncher's chance for Briscoe. If he would have somehow landed a single punch during the process of being outclassed like in Monzon fight, he would have won. Hearn's chin wasn't even close to Monzon's one, Tommy wouldn't have re-established the dominance like Carlos had been able to do.

I loved Bennie to death, but his style and size will do him in vs Hearns. Hearns Decision wide or late TKO.

I also loved "Baad" Bennie to death too, but Hearns would stay at long range to out-box him behind his quick left jabs and landing sharp combinations, including his right hands to take a decision in 15 rounds instead of slugging with him like Marvelous Marvin fought Briscoe.

Hagler didn't slug with briscoe. He outboxed him.

Hagler really wasn't that impressive in that fight, and Briscoe was past his best.
Briscoe had an interesting career. He fought a ton of good-great fighters. He won some and lost some.
This is a hard fight to call; Hearns was inconsistent above 154 and Briscoe was inconsistent throughout his career. People may be surprised by some of the losses he had.
Guess I am on the fence with this one. Can envision several different outcomes here.

I'm using Tommy at 47 or 54. He was a better middle then than he was when he campaigned there.

The ONLY WAY to beat the great Tommy Hearns is to be aggressive and apply an x-amount of pressure. That's the only way I see Bad Bennie Briscoe winning this fight. Can he do that? Otherwise, The Hitman wins by unanimous decision.

Yeah I'm with alp here. Hearns a level above BB but the hitman wasn't at his best at middle. Can see anything happening so would not be shocked if BB wins.

Agreed, except in the latter rounds Hearns would eventually catch Briscoe coming in with his perfectly leveraged right. The size difference would be huge. 5'8" Briscoe vs 6' 1" Hearns. Reach 78-71. I don't care if the fight was at 160 LBS. Hearns all day any day.

Hearns didn't exactly roll over Doug Dewitt who was about Briscoe's size and not as good. On the other hand, he ko'4 Roldan was about Briscoe's size. Hard to say. This is hard to predict.
You never knew what you were going to get with Hearns over 154. Same with Briscoe.

If you don't apply pressure on the Hitman, you're not going to win the fight.

I think he outboxes Briscoe who seemed to have trouble with guys who could move on him.
But Hearns better not run low on gas in the later rounds, or Briscoe could certainly catch him and knock him out.
Briscoe was a tough middleweight customer. Ask Monzon.

Briscoe,, not terribly different than Barkley. Might be an unexpected nail biter.

Except Barkley is quite larger. 5" taller.

Good point, with that stipulated...... I would suggest to Bennie, that he not sign on to fight Tommy.

Hearns would outbox Briscoe through 15 rounds behind his left jabs, right hands and great combinations from long range for a decision win. If Hearns was caught against the ropes, Briscoe would pull the first Barkley fight on him.

Like I have said, if "Bad" Bennie Briscoe doesn't apply pressure, there is no way that he beats the great Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns.

Of course he would try to "apply pressure". How successful he would have been is the question.

My opinion is that in an 15 round fight Briscoe would stop Hearns late. A 10 round fight is better for Hearns. Now, if an early slugfest developed ...
