Yep. Out of those 400k, 300k probably think that Manny got robbed against Floyd.

Manny is far more popular than Broner even in America.

The same way Hatton, Marquez and McGregor were way more popular than Mayweather in Floyd's own back yard.

It’s true. I’m one of the chumps who paid 75 bucks for this PPV and that was at least one of my reasons for paying for it. (Although I wasn’t really expecting anything other than a Manny UD.)

I agree with what you say. But we also need to consider how many people illegally stream these ppv's now.
So I can see every ppv fight being less than it was 5 years ago.
But yes Manny is not close to the star he once was

Streams were rampant and more reliable 5 years ago. 10 years ago they were so good I didn't even have HBO or Showtime and got every boxing and ufc ppv free.

Query rating's guru RKO on this. Outside of when Wilder fought on SHOWTIME, Broner does some of the best numbers when he appears on that network.

Manny Pacquiao is clearly THE most popular foreign athlete in American history.

When one of my buddies suggested Jamaican track star Usain Bolt might be as popular as Manny I pointed out that may be true globally (or in the British Commonwealth nations) but not in America, because track is far less popular in the US than boxing & Americans totally ignore it, except for once every 4 years at the Olympics.

Even globally Bolt's popularity has faded since he retired in 2017 and Asia has a lot more people than Europe or the Commonwealth nations.

Manny has always had MANY casual boxing fans in his corner (I know non-boxing fans who like him just because he is so likeable). Duran was popular with hardcore boxing fans but was too much of a poor sport to match Pac's idolizing masses. Even before the "no mas" debacle Duran was known as a "sore winner" because he often refused the congratulatory post-fight handshakes of his conquered opponents. I've even seen several Duran wins on TV where he actually spit on his conquered foes after the bout!!

The fight you mention with the "kid from the Bronx" was defending WBA light middleweight champ Davey Moore and the crowd that sang Duran's postfight "happy birthday" song was waving lots of Panamanian flags that night.

In Duran's day casual fan wasn t even a term. Boxing was a massive sport.Many, many more millions of Americans watched Duran fight than Manny. Not even in the same vicinity.
