Kerman Lejarraga vs. David Avanesyan - 30 March 2019
Posted: 25 Jan 2019, 03:45
by Ruthless-RKO
Kerman Lejarraga, the European welterweight champion, will put his continental title on the line against the former WBA" regular" world champion David Avanesyan.
This fight has been announced by the promoter MGZ. The contest will be held in Miribilla (Bilbao) on March 30.
Lejarraga will face the most experienced challenger of his career, at a time when his name begins to sound strong in the United States. In fact, he already appears on the lists of several analysts who assume that he'll fight for a world title before the end of the year, but before that happens the hard puncher wants to prove that he is the best welterweight in Europe. He is in the Top 10 of the four world ranking organizations.
Txutxi Del Valle, the coach of Kerman, emphasizes that they could have chosen simpler options for this voluntary defense but this contest is "bringing us to number 1 in Europe and demonstrates our confidence in Kerman and our commitment to fans."

Wonder what happened to re-scheduling Kelly vs. Avanesyan?
Still, this is a good match up!

Kelly didn't fancy the job, a duck in my opinion.

Kerman is building a resume now.
Staying in Bilbao, having boxers come see him. I wonder where he’s ranked within the 4 orgs.

Bilboa is a real lions den too, Kerman is very much the local hero and his support is taking off. Nobody will fancy coming to Spain for this

Huge duck off Kelly. Apparently the, night before he tried to change fight to 10 rounds......Avanesyans team said no then he pulled out the fight. Kelly Said it would be his next fight then backed out again. I do like the look of this Spanish guy he absolutely iced Gavin and Skeete without breaking sweat who are good domestic/fringe euro level fighters

But I would recommend it to visit, I think there will be some great fight nights with a great atmosphere.
Quality food and beer to, it would be a tremendous weekend away.

No-one has picked this up to broadcast in the UK unfortunately, should be an interesting fight.

Hypothetically, would you be willing to pay £3 or £4 for this?

I'm gonna check the Spanish Eurosport channel. They'll probably show it. They showed his fight with Gavin.
That was also no televised.

Probably.
Eurosport UK would have been nice seeing as their Spanish counterparts are most likely showing it & the UK channel is showing Curling. Never mind.

So you believe it should be a PPV....
I firmly believe that once the tech logistics can be sorted out so that its simple and fast to do that all sporting events will end up on a PPV arrangement, 99p per football match, £1.75 per F1 race etc etc

I don't really care whether it should be a PPV or not, I just wouldn't mind watching it & if it was £3 I probably would pay it for something to watch. I do pay for PPVs on occasion, sometimes I don't, not set in stone either way really.
It's not the standard of fight I'd want to pay for but if it was that cheap I probably would, as a boxing fan.

The comment wasn't an attack, just using the opportunity to point out the way I think televised events will go. It is a good 'Saturday fight night' type contest but as time goes on these will also be PPVs, just not the £20 or whatever todays PPVs are.

Is
https://www.fite.tv/ accessible to UK fans?
Some should just use this service.. Or a similar website if there is one. Or even just charge £4.99 on youtube.

I think your idea has a lot of merit but the TV companies would want £10 not £2-3.

It’s not £3 instead of £10 PPV, it’s £3 instead of the few pence that would be the equivalent of the sky subscription fee for those 48 minutes

Nice idea Lee, but what makes the Premier League so good is that (say) Palace can afford the likes of Sakho and Batshuayi and beat City at the Brutal regime Sport-washing stadium (Etihad).
La Liga has suffered where Real and Barca hoover up all the money - which is what would happen when EVERYTHING is PPV.

The 12-round clash with Lejarraga defending his EBU European Welterweight Title is promoted by MGZ Promotions, who co-promotes Lejarraga with DiBella Entertainment.
"This is the biggest fight of my career and I feel great," said Lejarraga. "I've had a long, hard training camp and have left nothing to chance after more than 150 rounds of sparring. It has been the best training camp of my career."
"Kerman looks faster and sharper than he ever has," stated Inigo Herbosa, of MGZ Promotions. "He sparred with some top-15 world ranked boxers for this fight and did very well. He will make a statement knocking out Avanesyan inside of six rounds and all of the top fighters in the welterweight division will take notice. He is ready for the big names."
"Avanesyan is another huge test for Kerman at what will be a sold-out arena in Spain, where Lejarraga is a massive star," said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. "Following a win on Saturday night, I want to bring him to the United States for a step-up fight against a known opponent, and then position him for a world title shot in late 2019 or early 2020. I fully believe that he can beat many of the top names in the deep and talented welterweight division."

This is definitely a problem with that model for football and the reason why the Premier League will never allow teams to be able to set that up.
For boxing though, a very small surcharge would probably work much better than pricey, no value pay-per-views. I'd be willing to pay £3 for this one fight as a fight fan.

Kelly and his team were disgraceful and he went down in my estimation.
I think he first tried to get the number of rounds reduced then maybe pulled out on the actual day if the fight.
Avanesyan has trained and made the weight and doesn’t seem to get the breaks the likes of Kelly get - good luck to the lad.
