Officially Retired.

Good to see him end his career healthy and with a few quid in bank.

Not unexpected after the shoulder injury and the miles on the clock.

Been a great stalwart of British boxing over the last few years, always willing to test himself and take the big fights.

Entertaining career from the start with the DeGale rivalry.

Played his part in some great events, even if on the wrong side on occasion.

Those huge Froch events will be looked back on as fond as the Benn vs Eubank great domestic battles in years to come. 80 feckin thousand!!

Well done St George. It is the right time, however, you should have had a peek at DeGale next month to see if you can sqreeze one last retirement fight PPV in.

Early days, no one thought he’d be world class. Pre-Degale fight, people spoke like it was a very, very easy nights work for DeGale

Pre-Froch, no-one even gave him half a chance. Took balls to take the fight to Froch and nearly spark him out round 1. Gave Froch 2 of his hardest fights

Won a world title and schooled the fvck out of Eubank. Brilliant career. Very exciting fighter

A good time to retire. He has achieved an awful lot and I think has a good future ahead of him as a pundit, motivational speaking and other avenues. He gave his all and achieved a great deal. He was always so cool under pressure and had bottle. Interesting to see that there was no mention of Booth or Haye in his public statement. I have no idea what the fallout was about, but always felt that they were a really great team.

Decent enough career.

Pity there wasn't one more fight over Ugly Kid. But, from George's perspective, he'd beaten him in the amateurs and the pros, so didn't need a third fight.

Sensible decision, enjoyed watching Groves as a fighter and he had a solid career.

Always rooted for him, he was easily likable. I was there at Bramall Lane when he finally won a world belt. A great night.

His dignified and endearing interview ringside after the highly dubious Froch stoppage spoke volumes about the chap. A class act.

Good career, good time to bow out.
As a general rule I like to mind my own business with regards peoples personal relationships but given the people that did get a mention in his official statement it is intriguing why Booth and Haye were omitted.

Thanks for the memories George. I’ve never met him but always came across as a genuine, down to earth, likeable person. Confident not arrogant.

Wish him lots of success with his future endeavours: really nice to see a fighter bow out at the right time.

He's had a solid career, World Champion, some memorable moments, some good wins under his belt, lots of good fights. He was never outclassed, even in his defeats. It's the right time for him to pack it up,

He is the type of fella to be hard on himself, I bet the Froch defeats grate, but a career to be proud of.

Good luck GG,one of my favourite british fighters of the last 15 years,rooted for him against degale and froch 2,always value for money and now he can go and enjoy his life with his family and all marbles intact

Glad to hear he’s retired tbh, I always like it when fighters retire at a sensible time instead of going on too long. He’s had an excellent career and I’ll always remember his classy interview when he won the world title

As questionable as it was, the Froch stoppage will certainly have made his retirement more financially comfortable.

If the fight had carried on, whatever the outcome, it wasn't going to require Wembley Stadium.

And I bet Degale is pig sick. There goes a potential nest egg.
