Kabayel vs. Rudenko on March 2

EBU heavyweight champ Agit Kabayel will, according to the EBU, defend the title on March 2 in Magdeburg on a SES promotion.

The opponent will be Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko, 32-3, who returned late December after being inactive since losing to Alexander Povetkin in July of 2017.

This voluntary defence came about after mandatory challenger Otto Wallin stepped aside after his trainer Joey Gamache had been seriously injured after being attacked in New York.

First fight for Kabayel (18-0) since April. Rudenko (32-3) is ranked 80th by BoxRec and has lost to Povetkin by UD in July of 2017, as well as decision losses to Hughie Fury and Lucas Browne.

Kabayel is no. 16 BoxRec rank, and owns a majority decision victory over Derek Chisora. This fight will prove little about Kabayel, who hopefully will have a better matchup this year. It should be noted that Rudenko was taken the distance by Jason Bergman, who was KO'd in 1 by Arslanbek Makhmudov this past weekend.

Bergman went the distance with Rudenko, not Kabayal, and was stopped in one by Makhmudov.

Kabayal went 3-2 in Biggers Better, which doesn't reflect on his pro record (which is a bit odd since Prizefighter tourney fights do). He lost 3 round decisions to Fabrice Aurieng and Evgeny Orlov.

Rudenko is a live dog for sure; Wallin would beat either IMO.

I seriously don't get Kabayel's ranking, other than the weight of the Chisora fight. He just doesn't look that good. Thin division.

Yes on both counts. But I thought it was still worth mentioning. Not sure why they aren't counted but prizefighter are. Commission related no doubt.

Maybe boxrec doesn't recognize like the issue with that German commission that has fighters in Britain that don't go through BBBoC so they are not recorded. :maybe:

If he was ranked 25-35 I wouldn't say that. But at 16, he's not that good to have earned that rank. I'll ask a question to you that another poster has asked recently; have I done something to bunch your undies? You seem to have a proclivity of posting barbs and it's beginning to irk me.

LOL! I don't recall ever feeling he was world class, although I did identify him as a prospect early last year and thus saw potential. Also, I don't find Dimitrenko as a good comp. He's older and not going anywhere. Thanks for the response! :TU:

Carlos Takam was ranked around #10 in public opinion after giving Joshua a hard time, and having some good older results against Perez and Thompson. Chisora was ranked around #10 after he KO'ed Takam. Kabayel beat Chisora. Why is that hard to understand? He also steamrolled Rovcanin, who should probably have a higher boxrec rating than he does.
Do you think Kabayel should be ranked below a bunch of guys who've never beat anyone as good as Chisora?

Rank - Fighter - Best Win
16 - Kabayel - Chisora
17 - Schwarz - Gashi
18 - Hunter - Ustinov
19 - Chisora - Takam or Scott
20 - Gorman - Turner
21 - Helenius - past-it Sam Peter
22 - Ruiz Jr. - Tor Hamer?
23 - Carman - Kean

Seriously, Kabayel beat a guy who was top 15 at the time, and the guys ranked below Kabayel have virtually no top 25 scalps between them, except for the guy Kabayel beat.

Nice to see Kabayel lining up another fight, bit disappointed at the opponent.

I'd like to see him making inroads in one of the ranking bodies. I guess 2-3 defences of the EBU will give him time for extra development.

Anyone know what's going on with Wallin and his trainer? Like how long could that postpone the fight with Kabayel?

This is an ok keep busy fight but a step up is needed for Kabayel. Did well against Chisora but has taken a step back since then.

funny how the former german/Russian hw powerhouse has changed with the arrival of AJ, Fury, Wilder.

its all about uk and usa atm at heavie

Kabayal is going to struggle to gatecrash the top level.

he wont even get close.

they cant even get better fights than Rudenko at euro level.

really dull stuff

All I heard was that his trainer was hurt in an accident.

This has Kabayel by wide decision written all over it.
