As a boxing fan this tournament has been brilliant enjoyed last season but I always had my doubts coming from a financial aspect.

I just don't understand how the promoters make money from this tournament feels like a sinking ship - the only way this model is viable is, if each fight is at premium to customers (which is utterly sh!te)

Any ideas?

I'm not too familiar with the financial intricacies but I'd be pretty gutted if Season 2 came to a halt. Forgive me if this is naive but surely Baranchyk stands to earn far less waiting for a mandatory or hand-picked opponent with his smaller profile (for certain absolutly no-one bar hardcore knows of him).

Season 1 was huge and a massive bonus for the sport, churning out an undisputed champion in the modern sense. I was surpised they went back with another Cruiserweight round this time,

The prospect of Josh Taylor winning (although I think he'll just be beaten in the final) has kept me glued, even the Bantamweight division which I'm normally not too fond of has introduced me to some fighters I'd never have bothered with.

Hope it all gets sorted.

Should never have done the second CW. That could have saved some money.

You had to question the sustainability with little caring about the us and UK markets, but I wouldn't say it failed. If there is never another fight under their banner I'll still remember the attempt and bouts fondly.

Maybe it's just a break even venture for the good of the sport? And Callie gets to lord in and get wasted all expenses...

It started off a great idea and season 1 was a success despite having a few potential problems. The bantamweight and super lightweight line ups looked good. the cruiserweight tournament wasn't really needed and considering that it is meant to be the best fighting the best but there is only 1 top 4 cruiserweight and no belts it doesn't really make sense.


I think part of the problem is that compared to season 1 season 2 does not seem as organised. with season 1 the fights were announced weeks in advance and tv deals in the uk were set up. This year however fights are being announced within 2-3 weeks of them happening and no tv deal in the uk hasn't helped also the time between the quarters and the semis is much longer which has not helped keeping interest in the tournament.


if the story about Ivan not getting paid is true then that is basically the end of the wbss as no fighter is going to want to go in it plus after season 2 I cant see any other weight divisions where they will be able to do a tournament anyway.

There is no TV deal. No UK TV money
