NEW YORK (February 2, 2019)- Tonight, boxing's hottest star, undefeated lightweight Teofimo Lopez (11-0, 9 KOs) continues his "Takeover" when he takes on former two-time world title challenger Diego Magdaleno (31-2, 13 KOs) in a ten-round lightweight bout at Ford Center at the Star, the practice home of the Dallas Cowboys in Frisco, Texas.

The fight, which is for the USBA, NABA and NABF Lightweight titles, will air live on ESPN+ at midnight E.T. and will precede that highly anticipated WBO Light heavyweight Title rematch between Eleider Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev.

Lopez of Brooklyn, NY was the ESPN 2018 Prospect of the Year, has built his lofty reputation with explosive knockout victories over the likes of Vitor Jones Freitas, William Silva and Mason Menard, Those three had a combined record of 73-5. Lopez now looks to take the next progressive step up the ladder as he fights the battle-tested Magdaleno.

Lopez weighed 134.8 lbs, while Magdaleno was 134.7 lbs.

"I am extremely proud, and grateful that I can be the co-feature for a huge card like this. Fighting in Dallas and where the Cowboys practice at, shows us we're that much closer to bigger and better things," said Lopez.

"A win will definitely let everyone know that in 2019 we're fighting for the world title."

"You can expect a great and entertaining fight along with a celebration that will go viral"

Said David McWater of Split-T Management, "I am like everyone else, I can't wait to see what he does tonight."

Lopez is promoted by Top Rank.

That was nice. Time to bring top 20 guys: Pedraza, Beltran, Fortuna, Easter ? 2 more fights and he is ready for title shot IMO. I like how he is stepping up in competition :box: :box: :box:

Didn't like seeing Lopez show up Magdaleno at the end after his little celebration routine. There is zero reason to be a jerk to a guy you just beat the piss out of for 7 straight rounds.

Yeh. The celebrations are too much. Needs to tone them down.

That was some idiotic celebration. But stuff like this brings attention of public and that mean more money. And that is priority in professional boxing

Bottom line is he's an exciting and excellent young fighter. He's only 21 and perhaps immature which explains his exhilaration.

Broner 3.0

Obviously Davis is turning out to be Broner 2.0

Agreed, I don't care about his exuberant celebrations in general but when he is directing them towards a stricken fighter who has just been KTFO then it's not acceptable, in my opinion.

That fight should have been stopped before the last punch was thrown, and once man was ko'd Lopez showed huge immaturity showing sweeping motion to ko'd fighter.

It wasn't even a huge accomplishment this fight, I mean he was put in with a guy who could not hurt him and it was just target practice and the young man acted like he really beat a competitive foe. I will not be a fan of this guy in the foreseeable future.

I had an interesting experience watching this one. I was pretty put off by the celebration as well.

But, to be fair, I don't know what the lead up to the fight was between the two guys. Hypothetically, let's say that Magdaleno said some pretty disrespectful stuff toward and about Lopez, I would probably still be a little annoyed with the gesture, but at least I could understand it somewhat, I mean I enjoy watching s sh-t talker gets his as much as the next guy. So, I feel as though I have to temper my opinion of Lopez given that I don't know the whole story.

Now, if it turns out that Magdaleno didn't say much then Lopez becomes a clown in my book and I look forward to seeing someone teach him a little humility in the ring....and the good news is, it seems to happen to almost everybody..eventually.

By the post fight interview you can tell the kid is aware of the whole "entertainment" aspect of today's game. Nice guys get no attention, generate no buzz. The kid is trying to get eyes on him and getting people to talk about him good or bad. People will tune in to either watch him beat someone up or hoping its him getting served some humble pie ala Maidana-Broner.

The bad thing about a celebration like that is that hes got a human live in his hands. Theres people who care about the opponent and will get emotional like Jessy did. God forbid but it would have been terrible if Diego had collapsed into a coma afterwards. Teofimo would regret that celebration for a long time.

Espn blames the corner but they are also to blame. During his last fight, Espn couldn’t get enough of the fortnite dancing and seeed more interested in the dancing than concerned for the layed our opponent. That fortnite dancing made all the headlines Naturally, Lopez feels like he needs to out do himself now and takes it to another level. A level of WWE standards. He is young and maybe not fully developed emotionally so I will try not to hold it against him cause he is a great fighter. He should be fined 7G’s by the commission IMO

Celebrating is one thing. Coming right next to a badly beaten, injured opponent when he is still out of it and taunting him like he did to Magdaleno is straight-up thuggishness. If Lopez doesnt leave that twisted crap behind I will eventually be rooting for someone to KO the arrogant fool, like I do with the thuggish Broner.

With all that said and I agree faining an undertaker shoveling dirt onto a dead body is in horrible taste while a boxer lay hurt after a lifetime beating, I was blown away by Lopez. His skills are on a way different stratosphere than anyone that I’ve seen at that weight in maybe my lifetime. I can’t think of a more impressive talent in terms of speed and power. His defense looked questionable so we’ll have to temper enthusiasm until he’s touched upstairs by a more effective puncher. But we may be watching someone very special here.

Lopez looks the goods thus far, and is looking like he will be a real problem sooner rather than later.

I have no problem with the dance and flip, but the scoop motion was too much and someone in his team needs to have a word with him about it (unless they are all yes men, which is possible).

Lopez is just a product of his times.

Crass behavior, thuggish mentality in sports is actually admired and even expected by a segment of the fan base.

Some point to Broner. You can go back to Tyson. But it's commonplace stuff.

Lopez doesn't know any better. He's a new millennium athlete.

His skills are on a different atmosphere? Funny how good some can look until they get in the ring with someone who can actually hit back !

Lopez is trying to create a buzz. I don't think he's really a pr*ck deep down like Broner is. However, he does want his opponents to remember the beating he gave them. Same with Loma too. Loma enjoys clowning overmatched opponents and making them quit. It's not enough to just beat the opponent down, both Lopez and Loma want to really leave their mark on their opponents psyche.

As far as Loma vs Lopez goes, Loma has beaten Linares and Pedraza at 135. He didn't look overly amazing in either fight. I would expect Lopez to starch both of those guys. Lopez has a size and natural weight/strength advantage and clearly has immense offensive talent. The question is how good is he defensively. It's ok to look slick against overmatched opponents but Loma will be testing his defense out to say the least. This is the biggest challenge out there to Loma now since Mikey has gone up to 147.

People will say Lopez doesn't desreve a shot but Anthony Crolla is getting a shot at Loma ffs

I'm not excusing Lopez' thoughtless celebration, but he's only 21 FFS.
