Matchroom Boxing USA will promote its first show in Mexico as Brandon Rios and Humberto Soto will clash in an all-Mexican affair at the Municipal Auditorium Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana on Saturday February 23, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Rios vs. Soto is in association with Zanfer and Paco presents.

Former World Lightweight king Rios (35-4-1 26KOs) returned to winning ways in style in November, stopping Ramon Alvarez in the ninth round of their high octane clash in Mulvane, near KS, pocketing a 26th win inside the distance in his 40th pro fight.

Former two-weight World ruler Soto (68-9-2 37KOs) has other ideas though, with the Mexican hero heading into the bout on the back of two wins on his return to the ring in 2018. Soto, Los Mochis born but whom now calls Tijuana home, admits his glittering career is on the line on February 23, and that means ‘La Zorrita’ will put everything on the line against Rios.

Hardly a stellar headline card and TBH its not even much an undercard fight but I don't know what it is, I think it must be the All Mexico angle but I'm quite looking forward to this, both guys are long past their best, Rios looked alright against Ramon Alvarez recently, Alvarez took his lumps that night I'm pretty sure

Cant remember the last time I even seen Soto, last I heard of him was him pulling out the Taylor fight, he seems to have been around forever, i think Rios will too young and dare i say it even to fresh for Soto which says more about Soto than Rios, i think it will be fun while it lasts which may not be long, Rios can be relentless when he's in the mood, i think he'll stop Soto before the halfway point

I get what you are saying but I think its still interesting IMO. We could say both are equally past their prime which makes it as competitive as it would have been 5 years ago. I wish we could get more of these match ups among faded names instead of miss matches where they just get served as stepping stones. If they are healthy enough to compete at least give them a fighting chance. They might not put some prospect over but at least they get to entertain.

My recording cut off after 3rd round so i'll have to record the repeat which is on now, it looked fun though and I enjoyed the undercard, these Mexicans don't fvck about, a much more enjoyable card than Eubank Jr/DeGale last night which I just never got into despite a couple of ok fights

Fun fight as I thought it would be but jeez I thought Rios won that, 116-112 for me, I did love some of the work from Soto, he picked some quality shots and more often than not they landed, it goes without saying that both guys were out of shape and are shot to sh1t but Rios still has an incredible engine even though a lot of his work was partially blocked, I thought Soto threw the better punches and was more accurate, I just had him fading down the stretch with Rios's steady pressure outworking him to win the last 4 rounds on my card

Soto was clever in always firing off combinations in the closing stages of the rounds but he was under constant pressure and when his workrate dropped I gave Rios the rounds, as I said though I do think the quality punches came from Soto, the scores were far too wide

Watched it this morning, all action stuff but there’s no way either of these should be stepping in the ring with any of the big names of the division.
Was quite impressed with Soto though, he looked about 80 years old but he was good value for the win.

Just got around to watching this, my recording cut off about 5 seconds after the final bell (lot of fights shown on the undercard to be fair). Both men well past their best but still enjoyable enough viewing, Sky comms became quite tedious constantly referring to how finished they were every 2 minutes - anyone who tuned in/recorded this is well aware surely!

I thought Soto did enough but it was pretty close.

I had Rios nicking it.
Luckily I had a fair few quid on Soto points at 10/1 :yay:
Taking the kid away for a week to Bluestone next week now with the winnings.

Hard to think of a more under-appreciated fighter than Soto during the last decade. One of my personal favourites.
Hope both men hang them up.
I had a feeling that if Rios got the decision they had a big fight planned for him.

Also Tijuana looks a great place to watch boxing.
Sexy Women, Boxing superstars ringside, tecate on tap and a big green monster walking round with boxing gloves on.
My type of town.
