The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee has called a purse bid, notifying the teams of Englishman Khalid Yafai, the current WBA super flyweight champion of the organization, and Dominican Norbelto Jimenez, number one ranked at 115-pounds.
The bid is scheduled for March 12th at the offices of the WBA in Panama City. It will have a minimum price of $ 80,000 to be distributed as follows: 75% for the champion and 25% for the challenger, with the manager to direct the purse bid being Panamanian native Aurelio Fiengo.
Yafai has been the super flyweight champion of the WBA since 2016, when he defeated Luis “El Nica” Concepcion. He has since defended his title four times. His record is 25 wins, no losses, and 15 knockouts.
On the other hand, Norbelto Jimenez is ranked number one in the WBA rankings and has not been defeated since 2011. His resume consists of 29 wins, 8 losses, 4 draws, and 16 knockouts.

Junior bantamweight world titleholder Khalid Yafai will next face mandatory challenger Norbelto Jimenez after their camps made a deal for the fight on Tuesday.
The agreement came just before the bout was scheduled to be put up for a purse bid at the WBA offices in Panama City.
There is no set date for the fight yet, but Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn told ESPN later on Tuesday that he might place it on the undercard of unified heavyweight world titleholder Anthony Joshua's defense against Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller on June 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Hearn said if the fight is not on the Joshua-Miller card it would likely be scheduled for another date in June in the United Kingdom.
Yafai (25-0, 15 KOs), 29, of England, has made four title defenses, most recently a unanimous decision over Israel Gonzalez on Nov. 24 in Monte Carlo.
Jimenez (29-8-4, 16 KOs), 28, of the Dominican Republic, hasn't lost since a four-rounder in 2011, but he also has not faced top opposition.

Andrew Moloney Hopes To Face Kal Yafai vs. Jiminez Winner
Andrew Moloney produced a stunning knockout against the tough Chilian Miguel Gonzalez on Gonzelez' home turf of Santiago, Chile, implementing himself at the top of the World Boxing Association's world rankings.
In a fight that was toe to toe action from the offset, Moloney, who was controversially down on the scorecards, delivered a crushing left hook to Gonzalez' chin in the eighth round, sending his South American counterpart to the canvas, in a fashion that prohibited the game Chilean from meeting the referee's count.
Moloney opened up on his performance and how stoppage victory, "Gonzalez was a good fighter, he was better than I thought in honesty and produced a career-best display and I want to thank his team for giving me the opportunity to come to Chile and fight him, as well as thanking my manager Tony Tolj who had worked tirelessly since August of 2017 to make this fight happen as well as my training team led by Angelo for getting me in top shape for it.
"I thought I was going to stop him to the body going in but the shot that stopped him was the shot we had been working on in the gym and it paid off in great style. After a knockdown was scored against me for slipping, I knew I had to take it out of the judges' hands so I did and I was delighted with the victory."
"If the winner unifies or doesn't want to fight me I will possibly look to fight in the interim but I will leave that up to the team and I am going to have a few weeks rest and then get back in the gym and continue improving for what big opportunities could be on the horizon."
The slightly bigger Moloney brother, Jason, fights this Saturday against Cris Paulino at the Seagulls Rugby League Club in Tweets Head, New South Wales for the WBA Oceania Bantamweight title in his first fight since his controversial loss to Emmanuel Rodriguez for the IBF World Bantamweight title.
Andrew gave his take on brother Jason's chances this coming Saturday evening, "Jason will be looking back to get to winning and I'm fully confident that he will look better than ever against a good fighter in Paulino. He's been working hard in the gym and he's had great sparring with the likes of Billel Dib who is also fighting on the card and has been in good form. It's going to be a good night of boxing and I fully expect explosive performances from Jason and Billel.
"Jason still has a high world ranking, so hopefully we will both be competing for world titles in 2019 and both of us will be world champions and I believe this is a very realistic goal that will come fruition sooner rather than later."

Hearn’s just waiting for Chocolatito to say yes so he can fight Yafai. So they can hype that he was ranked P4P #1 and probably have the fight a PPV in the UK.
What ever happened to the Ancajas fight. Other unifications. Decent title defences. You’d forget he was a world champion.

Yeah, theres always something with Yafai. Hearn said the Nietes unification was made for the Rungvisai/Estrada 2 card, and Yafai picked up an injury. So frustrating. When he got the title it was great thinking there was going to be British interest in an amazing division, and nothing happens.

Ancajas signed with Top Rank after winning in Belfast - that immediately snookered that fight.

And afterwards, they both appeared on the same ESPN card in the US. It was supposed to be like a build up to their fight.

Then Boxing Politics gets in the way - the big 3 stations now in US is going to make it more difficult to make cross channel deals.

Junior bantamweight world titleholder Khalid Yafai’s mandatory defense against Norbelto Jimenez will take place on June 29 (DAZN) at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn told ESPN. The bout will be on the card topped by middleweight titlist Demetrius Andrade’s hometown defense against Maciej Sulecki. Yafai, of England, will be making his fifth defense and second in the United States. Jimenez, of the Dominican Republic, hasn’t lost since a four-rounder in 2011 but he's taking a big step up in opposition.

Kal Yafai will defend his WBA World Super-Flyweight title against Norbelto Jimenez on Saturday June 29 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
Yafai (25-0 15 KOs) puts his title on the line for the fifth time and the Birmingham star returns to action following a points win over Israel Gonzalez in Monte Carlo in November. The unbeaten champion makes his second appearance on American soil after forcing David Carmona to retire after dominating the Mexican over seven rounds.
Yafai’s next obstacle in the way of the unification bouts he desires comes in the shape of mandatory challenger Jimenez (29-8-4 16 KOs), the Dominican man is unbeaten in 30 fights after turning his career around from early defeats, and the 28 year old will fight for the WBA belt for the second time having drawn against previous champion Kohei Kono back in 2014.
“I’m very excited to be back in action,” said Kal Yafai, who turns 30 today. “After my last fight I’ve got to go out there and win and look good doing so.
“He’s obviously going to be a good fighter because he’s my mandatory. I know he boxed for the World title nearly four and a half years ago against Kono and he drew in Japan. Since then he hasn’t really boxed fighters of a high calibre. It’s a long time to box guys at that level and then step up and fight someone like me. I’m looking to show everyone that I’m one of the finest World champions out there and make my mark in America.
“I fought in America last year and we all thought we were going to fight Jerwin Ancajas afterwards, the IBF Champion, but they didn’t seem to be up for it at all. It’s been a bit frustrating at times, and I had a hand injury earlier this year. After my last fight, and especially the performance, it’s given me that hunger to want it even more, to stay at the top and get those big fights. I think at times I’ve got a bit complacent, before my last fight, and that’s completely changed for this one so I’ll be at my game 100 per cent.
“It was a disappointing night for me in Monte Carlo. I didn’t perform how I’d normally like to perform. Everyone can see that that wasn’t myself in there that night but like I said on the night, I don’t like to make excuses. I get in the ring and I fight, and when I get in the ring to fight I should beat them up, at my best, and if I’m not at my best I shouldn’t be in the ring fighting. There’s a few things that I could have done better, but I’ve rectified all of my issues that I had going into that fight and hopefully I can show that it was just an off night in my last fight.”
“I want to say thank you for the opportunity to Team Yafai because they waited until the WBA ordered the fight and I became a mandatory challenger,” said Norbelto Jimenez. “I feel like they are underestimating me, and that make me happy because it motivates me every day much more. I thank Bélgica Peña of Shuan Boxing for the great support of many years, and also thanks to Golden Boy who is allowing me to be part of their family.
“It has been a long wait after fighting to a draw in Japan in my first world title opportunity. And now I just want to say that on June 29, the Dominican Republic will have a new world champion, and his name is Norbelto “Meneito” Jiménez.”
“This is a big fight for Kal, especially in light of what lays ahead,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “If he can beat Jimenez on June 29, it’s very likely his next fight will be a unification with pound for pound star Juan Estrada, so he must get the job done in Providence. It’s amazing that he now stands as Britain’s longest reigning World champion and we are expecting a top class display on a huge night of boxing.
Yafai’s clash with Jimenez is part of a blockbuster night of action in Providence as hometown hero Demetrius Andrade defends his WBO World Middleweight title against Poland’s Maciej Sulecki, while former Heavyweight world ruler Joseph Parker fights for the first time under his new deal with Matchroom Boxing USA.
I rate Yafai but I'm rapidly becoming bored of his career, great performance against Concepcion to win the title then just a load of poor defences afterwards its like even Hearn himself is disinterested in his career and is happy for him to prop up undercards forever, I thought Yafai got an absolute gift against Gonzalez last time out I didn't even have it close Gonzalez was robbed IMO, maybe it was a weight issue because Yafai looked slow and flat which is unlike him, maybe it was motivation he struggled with
Looking through Jiminez's record, its a bit odd, lost 7 out of his first 8 including a few KOs, one to Payano then afterwards padded his CV up fighting stiffs until drawing a world title challenge to Kono, still i'd be very surprised if Yafai has any issues here

Hope Yafai tries unifying after this. He needs it. Seems Hearn has given up hope on him.
