According to Boxing Squared, Luis Ortiz looks like a possibility as Tyson Fury's first ESPN opponent. While no talks have been reported by either camp, Box SQ discusses why this matchup could make sense.

A good fight for Tyson Ortiz is probably a bit past it and would be a good name on furys CV .

Fury will outclass Ortiz, maybe even to the late stoppage.

ortiz is still one of the top contenders but i would see this being real boring. fury doing his flick and run while ort plods around. hopefully one can hurt the other to give it some life

I don't believe that having to chase the elusive Fury around for 12 rounds is a wise career move for the slowing Ortiz.

He needs a cooperative opponent who won't move much. When you reach 40, a fighter isn't interested in a track meet.

I don't really expect Fury to be stopping too much of anybody at the top. Maybe a guy like Breazeale he'd stop, but not any of the upper echelon guys.

I can't see this fight going any way other than the way you've both described. Would be good to see the top contenders get in the ring together but i wouldn't be massively excited for the fight itself.

But on the other hand Tyson 'philanthropist' Fury needs a safe a fight as possible. And you couldn't get a slower moving opponent than Ortiz at this point in his career.

Horrible fight for Ortiz. After watching him against Wilder I wouldnt count him out against Wilder or Joshua. Even at loosing he could still have his moments like he did with Wilder and will stick around for a couple more years. A fight with Fury would be a huge set back. Probably a boring shut out that would make his stock take a big hit. It would be hard for him to get any of the other two's attention after that. Heck Wilder was very fortunate to get that last round KD He would have been discarded by everybody after being outclassed by Fury.

He's turning (or has) 40, so he is looking for a big payday I'd assume. He's pressed for time.

Good point. I think Fury wins easily.

Good opponent for T. Fury. With Fury's wingspan and skills Oritz will have trouble landing anything clean. Fury could stop him if he wanted to but he would likely just thump-out a pounding and take a lop sided decision.

The only top-ten world-rated heavyweight that Luis Ortiz has ever beaten is Bryant Jennings, which was a fight that took place in 2015, with the American having lost his previous outing prior to facing the Cuban.

Luis Ortiz only has two things going for him: his performance in the Wilder bout; and the enormous amount of undeserved hype and praise that has been lavished upon him over the years by the TV networks and hardcore fight fans.

If any other fighter not-named "Luis Ortiz" had recently faced the likes of Cojanu, Kauffman and Hammer, then no one would support the notion of them being worthy of earning a huge payday to face the likes of Joshua, Wilder or Fury.
