Observations: HW Division Upcoming Fights

Post by oogiebe »

BoxRec has Alexander Povetkin an Oleksander Usyk headlining a card in Chicago, May 18th vs TBA's. Too bad they're not fighting each other.

Wilder is no longer listed as having a fight in May. Probably due to WBC purse bid process???

Pulev to fight Bogdan Dinu...

No one seems too interested in Dubois/ Razvan Cojanu. This fight will tell us a lot about Dubois' development.

Another observation.

Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansaur. To compare this upcoming fight to Hrgovic/Mansaur is not apples to apples as Mansaur is having a proper training camp for this fight. Amir took the Hrgovic fight on short notice. I'm stoked to watch Efe on TV!

Am I the only one who thinks Dubois would wreck Gorman?

BTW, Dubois weighed in at a career high 17 ST 2LBS 7 OZ. (Approx. 242 LBS). He looks huge and in-shape!

Boxrec has always had an abysmal schedule. Mostly gossip. Rafael's is the best.

I totally agree with you. I don't feel that Dubois-Gorman would be very competitive.

Gorman may reach a certain level. Probably like Ron Stander at best.

But he'll never be a true top 10 guy. Even fringe contender is a stretch.

 I don't know about that, but it brought memories of what he looked like after the Frazier fight. His face was a mess!

True, but Stander was like Frankenstein. Kow was also cut in Washington fight.

Actually at one time he was top 10. Stander received a title fight versus Frazier. And they were a little more strict back then about being fighters being rated before earning a championship opportunity.

Today you can linger somewhere around 20th in the ratings and that's good enough.

Kownascki vs Gorman might be entertaining fare.

I suppose that some day it could serve as a WBA title eliminator.

Stander was never a very good fighter. He got the shot at Frazier by a flip of the coin. He beat O'Halleron and a very inexperienced Shavers in 1970. He was stopped 10 times by folks like Frazier; Merritt; Norton; Tillis; Scott Frank; Rodney Bobick; et al. His nickname "The Butcher" was more for what he looked like after fights and less for what he did to his opponents. Not sure how or even if he was a top 10 rated HW. Just saying.

Stander wasn't ranked in the top 10 in the year he lost to Frazier, according to The Ring.

I did read on BS, they will appear on same card but not against each other, will both have interim fights in lieu.

He shouldn't have been, but he was better than kownacki.

I don't see it that way, and Stander isn't worth a debate.

Friendly advice, if you don't want to debate something don't quote someone and disagree. Lol, I used to struggle with last word disease too.

Just seen that Andy Ruiz is facing Dimitrenko on 20th April. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. Ruiz should win it but if he loses i don't see him ever bouncing back from that loss.

Bakole v Wach is also interesting. Loser is done.

I wouldn't mind Ruiz JR. being done. Same for Wach! Hope it happens.

That's very true ... Amir mansour look fat, it was obvious he didn't train for hrgovic fight. Amir always came in good shape except this fight, so Hrgovic win is very over rated.

Whether Mansour was fat or sleek, in shape or not against Hrgovic , means nothing to the oddsmakers.

Ajagba is a whopping 16-1 favorite to do to Mansour what he has done to his previous opponents.

Get rid of him rapido.
