GGG has been directly negotiating with DAZN ownership recently after Hearn took a step back.

A formal announcement is expected at a news conference on Monday in Los Angeles.

Coincidentally, Demetrius Andrade is scheduled to fight on the 22nd June against an unnamed opponent.

Dazn will be the future of boxing!

Everything coming out of the Eddie Hearn PR machine has been about Dazn. This deal shows that the fighters can have some control in matters, and it's seemingly a more fan friendly prospect on the wallet than the likes of SKY & PPV models.

When it becomes available in the UK it will be a game changer.

This is good news. It means a 3rd Canelo fight is likely, and also that Golovkin fights won't be on PPV.

Canelo stated earlier this week that he was determined to unify the middleweight division before the end of the year.

Assuming Alvarez successfully adds the IBF title to his collection, if he’s lucky enough to overcome the challenge posed by Danny Jacobs, the Mexican will then be targeting a WBO world title fight in September.

If Demetrius Andrade doesn’t face GGG in June, let’s face it - it’s unlikely, then I wouldn’t expect the final part of the Canelo-Golovkin trilogy to play out until one of the major Mexican public holidays during 2020.

And by which time, GGG will be 38 years of age and attempting to avenge his sole loss against a 29-year-old version of Canelo that would almost certainly be entering his physical prime.

I can’t imagine a 38-year-old GGG being able to either stop a prime version of Canelo or alternatively having the physical ability to score a dominant decision victory.

This is good news. The PPV model is pretty much dead IMO At least the $50 per fight thing. If DAZN makes it worth I wouldn't mind keeping the subscription running all year. If not then ill just get it for good fights and cancel it next day.

I dont understand how promoters have not picked up that $50 for a PPV is too much when there are so many alternatives to stream them for free albeit illegal. Have them on a streaming streaming platform of sell them at $10 and the illegal streaming goes down.

Thanks to DAZN, we are witnessing the biggest shake-up in boxing for decades. Fingers crossed that they can pull this off. It will go down in boxing legend if they can.

I love what DAZN is doing but I am concerned boxing is effectively splintering into 3 major "leagues" (Hearn/DAZN, TR/ESPN, Haymon/Showtime) and that co-promotion is going out the window, limiting matchmaking opportunities.

Al Haymon advised/managed fighters occasionally appear on events televised by ESPN and DAZN (i.e. Amir Khan facing Terence Crawford; and Danny Jacobs fighting Canelo).

We rarely see the handlers of guys affiliated with DAZN or ESPN actively working with Al Haymon to include their biggest stars on PBC shows.

For instance: when has Bob Arum offered to allow Terence Crawford to face any of the Al Haymon managed/advised fighters on PBC cards? It hasn’t happened, because Top Rank seem determined to ensure their “big name” fighters are only allowed to compete on events televised by ESPN.

Whatever people may think of Al Haymon, the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum have to shoulder a massive portion of the blame for marquee bouts often not being made, yet fight fans keep giving them a free pass by instead always holding the PBC accountable for the entirety of this situation.

Tbh the most realistically top fights for GGG that could've been made back then were against Chavez Jr and Pirog (if he was healthy).

Atm I'm very curious to see how much gas has GGG left in his tank.

We might feel the mega money fights have come 5 years too late but Gennady may feel different. He probably feels he's lucky he's still around to be riding on such a boom period.

Fair enough, as he's contributed towards creating this boom. It's ironic that just as some were predicting the demise of boxing as a big time sport (in the aftermath of the Mayweather/Pacquiao washout), along came Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn followed by DAZN.

Money attracts money and who knows where we go from here. Remember the time when they could barely give Marvel Comics away? Now you can hardly move for superheroes.

Yup. GGG is probably very happy that he got to this great point of his career. Now he's extending his career to 39 y/o with a very good contract. I hope he's gonna give us great fights.

Also, 2011 was the last time Canelo engaged in three fights during the same calendar year. So it’s not as if he’s got a proven track-record of competing that frequently.

From a commercial standpoint, DAZN would probably want to strategically stage the Canelo-Golovkin III event at the most lucrative time, in order to maximise subscribers, with one of the Mexican public holidays being the optimal dates to televise the final bout of the trilogy.

Yeh I understand the trilogy would need to be May or September. But a similar fight to what he had against Fielding in December wouldn’t be bad. Last year he only fought twice and that was Sept and Dec. 4 month gap.

I remember that year he fought Khan and Smith, 2016 was it?

GBP had already booked a December date for him at MSG. Unfortunately he pulled out of that due to a hand injury.

So going back 3 years ago, Canelo has been open to fighting 3 times.

I really hope Canelo fights three times this year. I just don’t believe GGG will be one of the opponents for any of those fights.
