Remember your VHS collection

Seeing this article about a guys life's collecting and no one wants it, made me remember that i've thrown away about 100 tapes, with some fights that are not on youtube. The hassle of trying to record fights, the timer not going off or the show running over.

I had a collection of over 100 tapes and tried to give them away on here and had no takers so chucked them in the tip.

How easy is it to record vhs tapes to cd, does anyone know? I've still got loads of old boxing tapes from the 80s and 90s in the attic and I only kept them in case it becomes easy to do one day.
I remember thinking about binning some old vinyl records about 30 years ago when cd became the way to go and I'm glad I didn't now, especially as I got a record player that plugs into a modern cd player and vinyl sells well at car boot sales

You can sometimes pick them up from charity shops for a couple of quid.

Works well yeah? How long does it take to transfer? Cheap enough to buy?

My dad had a collection of about 5 VHS tapes hidden above the boiler. I learned a lot as a kid from those tapes.

Mimmy’s tapes were brilliant. Unfortunately I think they kept getting taken down from YouTube due to copyright issues, so he stopped putting them up.

This is a blast from the past! A real sign I’m getting old though...
Have thousands of fights recorded on hundreds of VHS tapes that have been left at my parents’ place. When I was younger I used to run a database on the computer about all the didn’t fights on each tape. I use to search the TV guides on Sky to find any channels showing boxing so that I could record it.

With the right plug, you can plug a video into a laptop and transfer the tapes that way, then you can write them on a disc, or portable drive, then try can be loaded on the net should you want to. A much cheaper option

Back in the eighties, finding a hidden VHS tape at your parents house could only mean one thing. Blond perms, red lipstick and hairy bushes galore, and if there was German being spoken, hairy armpits too
I think most kids in the eighties found a stash of hidden VHS porn at some point in their youth, either at their own house or their mates, it was like a right of passaage growing up. Scuddy mags were a good find too, as were porno playing cards.

I was quite good at sussing out people's bat caves back in the day. Was proud of it too until at my mother in law's house I discovered my brother in law's bestiality tapes. Some things cannot be unseen! Still can't understand how they got a shire horse into a living room.

My brother talked my dad into getting a betamax which we had fights on till it to the point of it be obsolete ..all the great early 80s fights we're on it hagler,Hearns,Duran , Leonard, Holmes by the time Tyson came around we had switched to vhs ...

Betamax was arguably superior to VHS, but didn’t lobby enough manufacturers to get behind it.
As far as the topic goes, huge quants of video tape are a fire hazard.

I remember my old man asking me to help him move a wardrobe back in the late 70s and a shit load of glossy magazines landed on us as we shifted it . . . Knave, Playboy, Penthouse, Mayfair, Fiesta they were all there! Managed to shove a couple down my pants before he grabbed them all up redfaced!

Occasional (not many) "bought" boxing videos cannot be dubbed using my device. There is a copyright thing on them. But it is very rare - the Ali vs Foreman / Ali vs Frazier 3 bill (presented by Ian Darke) is the only one so far I cannot seem to get onto DVD.
