Arslanbek Makhmudov faces Jonathan Rice, 10-3, on May 17 at Casino Montreal. Great fight for Makhmudov, I was thinking of Rice as a good step for him but didn't think Rice would take it.

i think its a decent enough matchup , rice is big and durable with a decent win or two, but i saw some other guys here putting it down as not tough enough

Rice isn't a bad choice of opponent. He's beaten Jamal Woods and Rodney Hernandez, lost on points to Irishman, Con Sheehan and took Tony Yoka to decision, so he's no mug.
After my saying that Avery Gibson would give Makhmudov rounds, I'm making no such claims about Rice, but it's a logical fight to make at this stage before Makhmudov (Arse to his friends
![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
) starts looking at the iron of the division.

He's not terrible, no. If Mak creams him, he'll go up another notch on my holy shvt meter.

he gave yoka a good fight and is a shw himself. durable. also beat a guy who beat joe parker and kod don dennis in wsb, although tbf that guy aint much as a pro.
its a good opponent for a prospect looking to get rounds
mak should be looking to fight a top 50 opponent soon though, he is 5 years older then efe, 3 older then hrgovic, etc. still not old for a hw but he doesnt have the luxury of taking it nice and slow

arslanbek dropped him hard with a right hand at the end of the 6th, then came out and hurt him again (rice kinda started to turn away a bit) to start the 7th and ref jumped in. commentary had arslanbek winning every round plus the 10-8. good for him to get rounds in

Yeah I think there's some kind of glitch with his circuitry. He'll be alright when they get him back to Westworld.
I was looking for the fight on YouTube. No luck yet but I got to watching old videos of him. I'll say nothing more because there will be many who haven't watched it, but if you're one who hasn't I highly recommend you go and watch a WSB match from about 4 years ago between BigMak and the sawn off Romanian buzz-saw, Mihai Nistor. It's well worth your time, really !

pretty ok test for Mak.
he certainly seems to carry a lot of power for most at this level.
he's a strange thing isn't he

Great learning experience for Makhumudov. We learned that Mak can carry his power later in a fight, yes, but we also saw that he needs a lot of work like cutting the ring off. He was chasing Rice early in the fight. Finally in the mid rounds as Rice slowed down, Mak was able to get to him. It was clear that a decent boxer would have their way with Mak at this stage. He still has a lot to learn. That power is his differentiator, but he needs to learn to cut off the ring and not chase and throw.

Makhmudov Definitely a work in progress with lots of upside. Punching obviously his big asset . His hand speed looked slow to me and over all he looked slow to me. Which is a big problem later on.
