I call spade a spade. He's just a 140/147 - 5′ 10″ dude who is fighting at 135 lbs. I want to see him vs Teofimo Lopez Linares/Verdejo/Easter or Barthelemy.

he is big for the weight, gotta say while hes been effective vs his opposition im not sure i see anything in particular that is really impressive. he seems upright and hittable

still, at his age hes done well so far and playing the weight right is a major part of the game today

I like Ryan and think his potential upside is huge.

He fought at 130 lbs year ago. If he will fight against top oponents i do not care if he rehydrate from 135 to 137 or from 135 to 147.

Of course they have different promoters, different networks, so there's no chance of it happening any time soon.

And why waste a potential super fight when both are still just prospects?

Big names demand a big stage. A world championship or 2 needs to be on the line.

And why bother to take a relatively paltry $500,000 or whatever risk today? Especially when the purse could be 50 times that several years from now.

I don't see Oscar as having been faster. Both are/were quick but I'm more impressed with Garcia's hand speed and mobility.

Oscar of course was a more complete, refined fighter from Day 1 in the pros. He had gold medal Olympic pedigree, so he entered professional boxing far more advanced than Garcia.

There was plenty talk of ODLH fighting for a world title in his third fight versus Chicanito Hernandez.

He probably would have lost to the savvy Hernandez but he was at least in the discussion.

There would have been no such title talk that early for Garcia.

ya we see different things, garcia is big and strong but he isnt close to blazing fast, if he had this blazzing speed and great movement and size and power i doubt that carlos morales is pushing him to an md

oscar won gold at 18 and turned pro young too, his being more advanced was him just being better in all likelihood

I agree that Garcia's skills are nothing special.No superstar future for him, imo. In fact, I would't be surprised if he's out of boxing in a few years after some really bad defeats.

I was buying into the GBP hype on Garcia until recently but as you point out Lopez is the 3rd straight fighter coming up from junior light to fight Ryan at LW. He's also Garcia's 2nd consecutive opponent coming off a KO loss before fighting Ryan. If RG continues to face opposition like this he will not develop as thoroughly as he could with tougher comp.

I am increasingly thinking Garcia will not be at the level of other fellow prospects like Teofimo Lopez or Devin Haney by the time they eventually get around to fighting (or even if they fought now, though that is very unlikely to happen).

Kid has talent and marketability.

Has flashy and tested wins but his opponents have been selected very carefully.

Interesting to see his future, but he will have to move up

DeLaHoya was great at drawing the female fans & that is clearly GBP's target audience for Ryan Garcia. But they clearly need to step up the caliber of comp if they want to build a genuine quality fighter behind the pearly white smile.

He is a realist in posting exactly the way promoters think.
We can all hope and pray for these big fights from rival promotions but in reality we have to wait for them to be financially viable.
It doesn't make him less of a fan. He's just realistic.

No such thing. If you can make weight, then you can fight at the weight. In that case, all fighters are weight bullies because mayby .2% of them fight at their walk around weight. In some instances, weight draining is a disadvantage as fighters like Floyd and Manny seem to have unlimited stamina in their prime and longevity as older fighters from not killing themselves to make weight.
