Martin Watson - Mark Winters looked like it was fight of the night. Little clinching and lots of action. Winters showed his age and deserves credit for seeing the assignment through. Watson showed good variation but, as Jim Watt said, needs to make subtle changes to his defence. He mixed his punches up better than I've seen him do before, but the defence hasn't really changed and he should focus on that in the gym/sparring.


Willie Limond - Frédéric Bonifa was a decent fight also, Limond fought well at range but rushed in to much. Looked like a pre-Gomez Alex Arthur at times the way he was caught coming in when the guy was up against the ropes. Showed good skills and I don't agree with Barry McGuigan that he needs to work on power to a great degree, yeah I think improvements to technique can be made, but I think the reason he didn't stop Bonifa was because he timed his finishing too poorly. Oscar De La Hoya's pro debut sprung to mind when I was watching the fight last night, Limond should look at that fight to answer the problems he was faced with last night.


Lawrence Murphy - Michael Monaghan, well the former WBU Middleweight Champion of the World making his comeback was always going to be hot copy. Rumours were rife that Hopkins was watching via live satelitte link and Eastman was disguised as a SN ring-card girl to scout out his British rival. The comeback was a flop though, as Monaghan looked like he was robbed. Hope that ref matures.

Yes it was a decent fight, I thought Willie looked good but seemed to rush his work very badly when he had his opponent hurt. He needs to sort this out quickly because against a better fighter he will get battered by counter punches.

Yes i enjoyed Watson-Winters, i felt that a fresher younger Winters could have won the fight or at least made it closer on the cards. I felt his sharper punches would have caused Watson trouble....i have not yet watched Murphy or Limond so will have to check my tape later before work.

Murphy was well beaten by monaghan, who was'nt moaning to much at the verdict, I expect murphy will go for farnell, Lockett, Elcock to be honest i think he'll struggle against all three, he marked up quite badly as well.
