I red this article one about a boxer German dude who was an alcoholic throughout his career. I mean drinking whole training.
Can’t get his name. He said whilst many fighters become alcoholics after he was one throughout his career. Anyone know any alcoholic fighters who drank in training I guess benny Lynch maybe
Willie Pastrano drank whisky during training camps.

Argentinian superfeatherweight champ of the 1980s Gustavo Ballas was a full blown alcoholic throughout his career I believe, in and out of training.

Who was that Australian? Rolled over against Danny Green?
Apparently Kevin Mitchell liked a few!
Buchanon, Hatton, Scott Harrison.
And also the name slips me, the great Welsh featherweight from Merthyr, but that was when his career ended.

Danny Costello was a smack head, Blue boy Gallagher was a crackhead, but maybe that was after he finished, apparently he was mental on nights out with Richard Evatt

I think you're thinking of Paul Briggs.

Fury was apparently out on the piss the night before skittling Nascimento.
Eamonn Magee would dedicate one night a week during training camp to getting hammered, if I remember correctly
Hatton was (arguably) a functioning alcoholic between camps

I believe you're thinking of Eckhardt Dagge. There's a famous quote of his, „Es gab schon viele Weltmeister, die Alkoholiker wurden. Aber ich bin der erste Alkoholiker, der Weltmeister wurde.“
Which translates to: "there have been many world champions who became alcoholics but I am the first alcoholic that became a world champion".
Superwelterweight champion, died at the age of 58.

I remember reading a letter in the Ring magazine from an American chappie. He had read an article in a previous addition which stated that the only opponent Benny Lynch could never beat was John Barleycorn. The letter writer couldn't find any record for John Barleycorn and was wondering if the Ring had any further information!! Honestly - true.

Occasionally, I’ve just moved near there but don’t really drink anymore.

Most boxers I’ve known were partial to the party life even while training for a fight, I had an all nighter before my last pro fight, my biggest regret was another all nighter before the A.B.A quarter finals when I was facing the no1 in Britain at my weight, not proud
