Damn, bad news. He has just regained his shape after the shoulder injury and now he can need another time off.

Most of the top boys only fight twice a year anyways he'll be back before you know it.

Looks like he'd become injury prone?

Not too severe hopefully. He needs to be getting the biggest fights possible for his career soon though. In your 30's with injuries starting to happen regularly. Soon you'll lose your form for good. This goes for any athlete, but with boxers when they start to move out of their prime it's obvious, and can be quite painful.

1 of the 2 maybe. Both highly unlikely.

Hand injuries could even possibly be a career ender. An injured thumb is what stopped me.

Do we know how bad the break is? I heard it was on the last punch.

While Loma recovers, Arum talking about matching Commey and Lopez for the title.
Would eventually set up a unification, maybe next year, with Lomachenko.
Or if Lopez won, he could milk the title for a while to gain experience and increase his marketability.

Can someone explain to me why BR rates this fight 5 stars?? This is one of the most lopsided fights I have ever seen ! Looked to me like Loma could have easily KO'd Crolla in the first, and had to hold back for a couple rounds just to make it look good. Loma needs to get in there with some real competition!

I'd imagine any Loma fight would be considered five star.

That was a two star at best. This is the first I've seen of the hand. That sucks.

I don't disagree. The question was about BoxRec star rating. AJ vs Miller is also a five star fight according to BR.

Their schedule has always been horrible. I haven't looked at it in over a decade.

It should be more competitive. Last longer.
Are stars designated based on the legitimacy of the title at stake, regardless of the quality of one of the combatants?

Good question for BoxRec directly.

To me, 5 stars should be reserved for true superfights. The bouts that we drool over in anticipation.
Lomachenko vs Garcia. Joshua vs either Fury or Wilder. Golovkin-Canelo. Crawford-Spence.
When one fighter is a 100-1 favorite as Lomachenko was last night, that's not 5 star quality.

I completely agree. Where do we ask BoxRec how star ratings are deciphered?

Star rating is based on the ranking of the lower-ranked fighter in the fight. So a #1 vs #20 fight has the same star rating as a #19 vs #20. #1 vs #50 has the same star rating as #49 vs #50. Since Crolla's divisional rank was #3, he allowed this to be a 5-star fight.
Although it is not a very complex system, I tend to agree with it. I don't think the better fighter makes a fight worthwhile; it is definitely the worst fighter that makes the fight. I don't want to see Errol Spence murk some #50-rated fighter. I'd much prefer to see a #49 vs #50 fight, because that would be competitive, entertaining, and meaningful (in the sense that it has a real impact on the ratings, and helps accurately gauge those fighters). If Spence murked a #50 fighter, then their rankings wouldn't even change at all, and it would tell us nothing.
If y'all didn't think this was a 5-star fight, then your beef is with the fact that it is not as competitive as you'd like; which, being a #1 vs #3 match-up, is hardly something that a computer could have anticipated.
Some editorial about computerized rankings: there are some other ranking systems that have a certainty factor based on how much evidence it has to go off of. For instance, the certainty of Otto Wallin's ranking should be very low, since he's only really fought Dillan Carmon. But the certainty of Dereck Chisora's rating should be very high, because he's been tested quite a lot. My opinion could be wrong, but I think fights are more interesting when they involve fighters whose ratings have low certainty (because the outcome tells us quite a lot that we don't already know). Some other people would probably prefer fights involving fighters with more certain ratings, because they favor brand recognition and familiarity.
