Abel Sanchez gets the Boot

Golovkin announces that he and Abel Sanchez have divorced.

It must have rankled him when he heard that Sanchez felt Canelo deserved to win the second fight.

Let's see if Sanchez eventually joins Team Canelo in some advisory role.

So Abel now lost two name guys. I think he's overrated a bit. Both GGG and JJ have like no defense.

I'm saying don't be surprised if Sanchez ends up working for Canelo.

He loves Mexican Style boxing. The real kind.

Is he still with Gassiev?

Gas looked completely clueless against Usyk.

I don't know if he's still with Gassiev. Post back if you find out.

He should have dumped that traitor the minute he said that.

Maybe at this age it became too hard for Golovkin to do Sanchez style training at elevation and Sanchez wouldn't adjust.

Could be. Abel seems to forget defense technique it seems to me. I wonder if we'll ever know a reason.

I am wondering if Golovkin paid Sanchez percentages of his purses. If yes, I can understand his unwillingness to pay him millions from his DAZN purses.

Same. He said GGG tried to low-ball him on new compensation. So you appear to be spot-on.

Golovkin definitely made Sanchez a bigger name than he deserves to be and attracted other fighters to Big Bear.

Never a big Abel fan. Between this and Joyce, I wonder if a trend is taking place.

Same here never a big fan of him , tried to change a classical European great into a mexican , and he did'nt do a good job , for me steady decline in GGG'S skill set the longer he was with Sanchez , certainly a case of the boxer making the trainer

Sanchez: Golovkin has no "honor, ethics or integrity."

Gee, and I was always told that Canelo is the bad guy. They must be lying to me.

I only see love, admiration and mutual respect in the Team Canelo camp.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

A betrayer's trust is worth less than a tinker's curse. And Sanchez wanted a tidy sum of that 100 mil?
He got paid: he got paid in kind.

Whether or not GGG was rankled doesnt make it any less true because Canelo did deserve to win the rematch!!

It's easy to blame Sanchez for GGG's gradual decline in the last few years, but GGG is now 37 years old & many athletes lose a step in their mid-30s & I believe age has more to do with his decline than Sanchez does. Many of us have been saying that in recent years.

It’s normal for trainers to receive 10% of their fighters’ purses, which is the figure Sanchez claimed he was receiving, but was allegedly being asked to take an 80% pay cut or get fired.

I guess this is the reason why Abel Sanchez is so frustrated about GGG signing a nine-figure deal with DAZN, whilst also believing that “nobody deserves to be paid and nobody did anything”.

Didn't you once claim that GGG wasn't greedy (money wasn't his main priority), was mainly concerned about his legacy and was also very loyal to his team?

For the record, I'm pleased about GGG taking control over his financial situation and career, as it addresses many of my long-term gripes about him being mismanaged/badly promoted etc. And these were criticisms you agressively disagreed with.

This makes me question GGG and who is advising him, if you get a massive deal and don't compensate your team that sums up your character :stop:

...seems like the usual conflict between employer and fired employee..don't believe Sanchez is getting 80 % cut...let's see the numbers first before making any conclusions... :stop:

If Sanchez was lying about being asked to take an 80% pay cut from the standard 10% trainer fee, meaning that he only received 2%, then GGG will not refute it. Gennady admitting to imposing any sort of pay cut on his team that is significantly less than industry standard (for purely fiscal reasons) would be extremely bad for his public image.

Sanchez's claims will almost certainly go unchallenged or Golovkin will attempt to justify his decision by going a different route instead, such questioning his former trainer's competence or lack of influence during training camps.

..firing and hiring happens all the time, I would still expect GGG to address this 80% pay cut issue..regarding going a different route it is certainly understandable that after 9 years one might need "fresh blood" in the camp and one might be willing to get rid of old ballast...

For the record, I have my second thoughts whether the boxer from Kazachstan has enough knowledge and political influence to make financially viable short/long-term decisions on the US market...wonder if making it 100% family business is the right way to go...
