Nice Heavyweight sighting-chat

Minding my own business in my local Morrisons...…

….coffee (check) wine (check) fresh fruit and veg (also check) when a colossal figure casts a shadow over me.

Half-recognise him but don't want to make a prat out of myself but get helped out by a fellow shopper who bowls over and says hi to the big man.....hi Nathan, good to see you and you're looking in decent shape mate.

Bingo....it is Nathan Gorman with his weekly shopping list

After a bit of a pause I risk a chat...…lovely fella, built like a T-34 tank and very softly-spoken and humble.

And the good news is that a quick-nosey peek into his basket confirmed that Nathan is a healthy eater....all fresh fish and veg just for the record..

Bit of a treat to brighten-up the trog around Morrisons and even better that big Nathan is approachable and a regular guy who likes a quick yap :salut:

I like him, he always comes across well in interviews and seems like a gentlemen. I didn't think his diet would be great though :D

I’ve bumped into Whyte twice. Cool guy both times. Huge physical presence. More than the actual size, you can just feel this aura around him of destruction

That's cool - yeah I can sense that just from the TV. He sometimes looks a bit manic and get the feeling people who interview him are walking on egg shells through fear he'll just destruct and go ballistic - but seems a good bloke.

His brother is even bigger, massive lad.

Pretty much every fighter I have ever met from journeyman, all the way up to hall of fame level, has been super down to earth. Literally only a couple of exceptions.

You are right about ex-soviet block fighters, they just see it as their job, they have a job as boxer, in the same war you have your job , no difference.

Nathan was genuinely charming and it was a great chance encounter.....

…..but I was really struck by the sheer size of these modern heavyweights.

I am not small fella myself and played a lot of rugby against some big blokes in my time but there was just this sense of someone being altogether more solid, more powerful and just a 'presence.' Just another level really.

Wish the guy all the best.....he's local, approachable and hopefully he's being well looked after and guided.

Used to follow Henry, he was a class act and an underrated fighter. Was a really good boxer in the amateurs, he morphed into more of a slugger in the pro ranks. Saw him blow someone away at Leeds town hall, then Eubank appeared up in the corner of the cheap seats area to hype their fight (which came next for Henry). For maximum wind up effect on the Leeds fans, Eubank had a limo parked RIGHT outside the town hall, so all the fans had to mill past it when leaving the building ! Went down to London to see him challenge Benn too.

yes pal, well said! something that didn't sit very well with me was what Golovkin did with Sanchez felt like he let the trainer go as soon as he got his major contract - what do you reckon?

It’s a tough one dude ...

Golovkin was already a beast long before he met Sanchez, not just an Olympic medalist but a legit amateur star having beaten a long list of other stand out fighters : Korobov, Bute , Andy Lee , Andre Dirrell.

He was also 18-0 with a huge KO percentage and was mandatory for the Interim WBA title. ( I think the fight for the interim title was his first with Sanchez ) .

At that point Sanchez has was in the wilderness having had success in the 90s but not much in the 00s until he linked up with GGG in 2010.

From that point Sánchez has made a lot of money and gained a great reputation on the back of GGGs success. So you could argue that Sanchez has been well rewarded financially out of the arrangement to date.

It is after all a commercial arrangement.

Sanchez will carry on training fighters for many years to come ( again due to his reputation that GGG enhanced ) . GGG has a year or two left in the game and he is the one getting punched in the head.

Now GGGs pay packet has increased by so much , I personally think in this specific situation GGG is within his moral rights to reduce the percentage the trainer gets, as long as in real dollar terms Sanchez’ pay per fight hasn’t dropped.

Sanchez has done very well out of the 8 years together but didn’t want to take a percentage cut , which I assume wasn’t a pay cut in real terms. This to me is ego and/or greed!

The hard work of making GGG the legend he is, was done by GGG himself and his amateur trainers.

Now in the other famous percentage cut - trainer / fighter bust up, Naz and Brendan Ingle , I was firmly on Ingles side . Ingle had taken Naz from literally day 1 to a world superstar. Something rarely seen in boxing and should have shared in the rewards that came.

well said mate, maybe I was being a tad attached to the trainer and his mindset - for me the ethics (which I know is absolutely BS in the real world) say GGG should stick with Sanchez till he retires but hey lets see what the next 24 months are like for the kazakh!

I can certainly understand why people have this opinion and in an ideal world of loyalty and wealth sharing/ equality it would be nice !

Given how he is calling GGG greedy , I wonder if Sanchez fancies giving some of his GGG millions to Golovkins amateur trainers to show how generous he his ;)

He is an incredible bloke, just lost his Mam and rescued the roof of the church she was buried at. He’s not got his head round it, but soldiers on for his team.
