Jermall Charlo’s return to his hometown will take place a little later in June than expected.



Multiple sources have informed BS.com that Charlo’s WBC interim middleweight title defense against Brandon Adams has been scheduled for June 29 in Houston. Showtime will televise the Charlo-Adams match as the main event of a doubleheader from NRG Arena.

Showtime’s telecast also is expected to include WBA interim light heavyweight champ Marcus Browne, who’ll defend his secondary 175-pound crown against former WBC champ Jean Pascal.

The card headlined by Charlo-Adams initially was planned for June 8 or June 15. Scheduling it for June 29 will eliminate head-to-head competition for viewership from Gennady Golovkin’s fight against Steve Rolls on June 8 at Madison Square Garden in New York (DAZN) and the Tyson Fury-Tom Schwarz heavyweight bout June 15 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+).

The 28-year-old Charlo (28-0, 21 KOs) is a heavy favorite over Los Angeles’ Adams (21-2, 13 KOs), who won season five of “The Contender” late last year. Adams, 29, soundly defeated Shane Mosley Jr. (13-3, 8 KOs) by unanimous decision in the 10-round season finale November 9 at The Forum in Inglewood, California, but he’ll take a steep step up in competition against Charlo.

Jermall needs an opponent he can knock off and look good, especially after his last fight. He probably would have done a good job on Monroe, but Korobov came in last hour and in most eyes, beat Jermall.

Would people have rather seen Adams’ fight GGG over Rolls? Probably would have been paid more? Who knows. Don’t really know much about Adams anyway.

Pascal getting yet another decent money payday. With even a semi-title on the line.

This guy must know about the skeletons in a lot of people's closets.

Browne can be a beast. You have to feel for Pascal who has taken quite a bit of punishment in recent years.

Browne is the WBC silver champion too.

No Regular belt. Bivol was promoted the only champion when Ward retired.

Wake me up when he fights Jacobs or someone else who is at least debatably top 10 in the division.

First Jermall should finish his business with Korobov. Then go for Brant and Derevyanchenko. In this way Mall would build up his name. Of course if he beats them clearly.

Also the main belts(wbc,wba,ibf) wiil stay where the money is. That mandatory s.hit doesn't work if you ain't bring nothing to the table.

The IBF don't care about money. They enforce mandatories. Just like when they stripped GGG of his title. They lost out on money there as GGG vs. Canelo would have paid handsome sanc fees.

You have a point but atm the money are in Canelo vs Jacobs fight.

Nobody wants to do cross promotion without huge money being involved these days. I dunno how much he'd stand to make in a Jacobs fight but they must figure the risk/reward is better if he keeps crushing no-hopers on PBC cards.

Then again, Korobov was supposed to be a no-hoper, so you never know.

Jarmall was in deep waters vs a prepared on short notice version of Korobov. If he wants to draw something he should rematch Korobov then go for Derevyanchenko and Brant. He ain't getting no big fights if he stays coddled and he is hoping is gonna get the wbc strap somehow.

pbc at least has derevchenko dont they, maybe they can make that

Mayweather was more established than Charlo. Even when he fought Castillo. Floyd was high profile. Everyone knew about that fight and Mayweather needed to set the record straight.

Charlo is far more under the radar than Mayweather. He can get away with things because outside of hardcores, the public doesn't really know him.

So Charlo doesn't have to fight Korobov again, since relatively few are aware how much he struggled. No reason to expose his deficiencies any further.

Don't twist the things. That dude must fight some decent opponents. Half trained Korobov drowned him in deep waters.
