5 million Scots will be celebrating tonight as Berti has handed in his notice

About bloody time too.

To be honest this must be one of the least attractive jobs in football at the moment but both Strachan and Walter Smith are definetly interested.

Good news indeed.But now the SFA have got to be very careful indeed who they choose. Id go for Strachan. Scottish, passionate and committed (even if he is ginger and supports the wrong team from Edinburgh ). Smith for me is a chequebook manager. He done well at Rangers when he could bring in big money signings into a team which effectively plays in a 2 team league, and had a pretty woeful European record. he went down to Everton and just couldnt cut it to any great extent and what was he doing at Man Utd? I would even maybe go for George Graham if hes still interested, but Walter Smith? Nah

This stuff about the next manager coming in will have to work with the same group of players that Vogts did doesnt really cut much ice. Alright theres no denying that this isnt the best group of Scottish players theres ever been, but its how they play that matters. Tactically Vogts was a nightmare, he couldnt organise a snowball in a blizzard. He seems to lack passion for the team. The next guy who comes in must surely do better in these two areas than he did. thats the big difference.

Any sports fan can live with defeat. Any sports fan can cope with not being the best there is but if they see their team playing with passion and doing the best they can, then you can live with not being world beaters. Passion, tactical awareness and commitment is what the next guy needs to bring.

We're not going to the World Cup in Germany, well not realistically anyway, so in effect the next guy has 3-4 years in place before the next Euro Championships. that is more than enough time to turn things round, given time and patience from the fans and the press. By then many of the younger members of the squad should be appraoching their peak and a few guys not yet in the Full Team set up will have arrived. so maybe its shite just now but it surely cant get much worse.

Who knows, maybe before the world cup in 2010 we can dust off the Allys Tartan Army 7 inch and recreate the immortal words of Andy Cameron and all sing along merrily to the classic line ..... We're represtenting Britain and we have to do or die... cause England cannae dae it cos they didnae qualify!!

Failing that then go for Strachan.

Whoever they bring in can't exactly do a worse job than Vogts

Personally Strachan would be my choice and he has said recently he couldnt turn down his country but the knobs at the SFA wont touch him with a bargepole due to the fact he has a personality.

They will see Smith unfortunatly as a safer and cheaper option. Hope im wrong though.

I hope tommy Burns goes too. IMO he's as guilty as Berti was. Ive never really rated Burns as a manager. If Berti had done well, been a success, then Burns would have shared in the praise and taken the plaudits so his P45 shold be in the post too.

Finally, am I the only person in the country who doesnt rate Barry Ferguson? I dont find him insprational in the slightest. the guy always plays simple, sideways balls. Keep him in the team (when he fancies a game) by all means but strip him of the captancy. Give it to someone like Steve Presley. maybe not the silkiest of players but he'd run through a brick wall for the cause (ala Stewart Pearce). Ferguson however, literally, couldnt spell brick wall.

To be honest i dont think Berti ever really listened to Burns whilst he was in charge but i reckon he will probably leave and try to get back into club football.

Ive never really rated Presley since his early days at Rangers but i do agree that Ferguson is not the man for the role of captain due to the fact he picks and choose's what games he plays in and he is a bit of a knob.
It was absolute criminal to have Darren Fletcher fill in for him when he was injured.

indeedy. used to go week in, week out up and down the country, season ticket job etc, though to be honest my interest has waned in recent years, not been to a game in a long time really. but i should say im not one of those hearts fans who hates the hibs. whilst theres always a rye smile when they lose, id always rather see an edinburgh team do better than ones from any other city.

Fair point about presley, after i posted my previous post i started to think about a more suitable captain and although i dont rate presley as a player i do think his determination and willingness to play for the jersey makes him a much better alternative to pea brain fergie.

The scots have never played such a good and modern football before Vogts. they went to Euro-eliminaion and did a real good job vs. Netherland. the actual world cup qualifying group is just too strong for scotland. what will happen with all the talents McBerti has integrated.........

yes, he didi a brilliant job in the EURO 1996 in England. he won there with almost ten injured players.

the media hates him. and he had some problem to deal with the journalists. and he was the one who followed Beckenbauer, the most popular german on earth. (and IMO the biggest SOB anyway)

The guy has talent and will always score goals at Division 1 level or whatever they call it these days. He is a whinger though and asked for a transfer at the beginning of the season and got sent off for moaning at the ref the other weekend. Saying that as we speak Wolves are beating Sunderland 1-0 and Miller has scored on his return from suspension

To be fair to Bertie is it his fault that Scottish Footie right now how such a scarcity of talent?...... the problem runs much deeper than just the coach.

He has a point...they should look to set up a better national youth system, or maybe steal English players who once knew a Scottish person and therefore seem to qualify to play for them

been there and done that. overr 70 players in 2 1/2 years!! not many were born in gods own country!

i can only remember times when Dalglish and Strachan played for scotland that they played better football. and this is long time ago.
