Why so down on DAZN?

It beats high dollar PPV? On top of cable subscriptions? I have been away from boxing for years because I couldn't afford it, and was excited to see somebody trying to bring prices down. But I dont think I've seen more than a couple of positive comments anywhere about DAZN. What am I missing here?

I love dazn. Saves me probably $500 a year. We've never had full fight cards here either. They're just not operating currently under a sustainable business plan in the States unless they get a major sport.

From a fight fan perspective, it's good, because it's cheap. Unfortunately though, until their customer-base grows significantly, the typical quality of their events will remain fairly low, which is a problem the PBC suffered from.
For sure, they'll cover a few really good events every few months or so, but fight fans should expect most fight cards to be headlined by mismatches (i.e. Canelo-Fielding, GGG-Rolls etc.)
From a financial perspective, DAZN has adopted the same business model as Netflix, which is roughly $12 billion in debt, despite having 139 million subscribers. This means that DAZN's significant and continuous expenditure, whilst generating very little revenue, is unsutainable in the long-term.
I want DAZN to succeed, like I do with ESPN and the PBC, because it's good for our sport.

I think most love the service, just don't believe it will be able to last due to cash burn.

The NFL can opt out of their direct TV contract this year. If they get that they'll have 40 million subscribers.

Sure, if they stick with just boxing they're done.

No doubt. I never thought they'd expand to NFL. Also not sure if NFL would view DAZN as an option.

The president is respected in the major circles from his time at ESPN. If they're willing to burn money like this on boxing I'm sure they'd make a handsome offer to the NFL. Right now the NFL ticket is only available through one satellite provider, I'm sure opening it up to the everyone in the country would appeal to the NFL big-time.

Just purchased the $99.99 one year subscription. That was an excellent card last week that beat most PPVs that I have been buying for $50 or more over the last ten years.
This week I have been going into the archives for fights that I missed live. One of those is the Munguia v Inoue FOTY candidate.
I feel like I am at break even right now, with 51 weeks to go.

I subscribed for a couple of months but then I dropped it because I didn't see any fights of particular interest to me on their schedule. Also, I can't stand their time filler material. The technical quality of the fights, tho, was very good. I particularly liked the fact that I could tune in late and watch the show in its entirety, fast forwarding through the no interest fights and time wasting junk.

It sounds to me if you are also into MMA/UFC, it's really a terrific service.

No, Oog, I'm not into MMA/UFC (what's the difference?), tho I like to watch the amateur mma Strelka fights from Russia, and maybe I should get into it. I do watch it on occasion but I prefer the structure of boxing with which I am, of course, also much more familiar. What about you?

I'm the same. Boxing but not into MMA/UFC. So I don't have DAZN.

Thanks for the correction. I would never know that as I don't follow either MMA nor UFC.

They need deeper rosters between Matchroom and Golden Boy to keep it interesting
