According to Teletext, WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitchko has admitted to using banned steriods in the past and indeed failed a drugs test when as an amateur.

Klitchko stated that he was naive and he only took the drugs to recover from injury.

However, it is something that many boxing insiders have suspected for a long time.

This revelation is included in his up coming Autobiography.

He was banned from the '96 olympics because of it.

I do believe though this is the first time he has admitted to though.

He's admitted it before Stu, came up around the Lennox fight I think.

he had a calf injury and took something to speed up the healing.

not sure exactly what he was on.... could have been prescribed drug... i think he said he got it off the team doctor.

Thanks for that guys, didn't realise this. On another site where I post a pro Klitchko fan has been spouting off calling Roy Jones a steriod abuser and its been a great source of debate. I, along with others, have said that it is his hero who "looks" the more likely to have juiced but I have been bombared with "documentation" (as a person with a Msc in Sport and Exercise Science and has studied performance enhancing drugs this documentation looks fake) concerning the Roy Jones vs Richard Hall fight - I know Jones failed sample A, but passed sample B which, for me, indicates a problem with the testing procedure as opposed to Jones being a steriod user.

So these facts will hold me in good stead.

I have heard that the original plan was to have Vitali fight at Super Heavy and try and squeeze Wlad into the heavyweight category. Of course, once Vitali failed the test, that issue was resolved.

These revelations (and what I have learned since) does make me think was Vitali actually the better amateur of the two.

Wlad was only 20 in Atlanta also, they would have surely gone for the more tested Vitali had he not failed the test....

Wlad had lost to lezin at the 96 europeans whereas Vitali had beaten and lost to Lezin the previous year on points.

Vitali is fairly slim compared to Wlad who is a lot more muscular.....

Not all steroids are anabolic steroids it may have been a cortisone injection which is also classed as a steroid,all this does is reduce pain, swelling and imflamation.But it is banned all the same.

No, he passed the B sample - Richard Hall also failed the test (Sample a anyway) which suggest to me there was problem with a procedure.

I just got me info from debates from various people on general forums, however even the Roy Jones haters on these debates have agreed that he passed the B sample but thought the B sample was taken days later (which cannot be the case).

These guys have done alot more research than me and have shown me to links from websites that state that Jones passed the B sample, how reliable are these sources is anyones guess though.
