Witter vs Tackie

I found this in a report of the commonwealf title meeting on secondsout.com
"At Light Welterweight, Champion JUNIOR WITTER has been granted an extension to defend against BEN WONDER TACKIE of Australia, but the winner will be required to defend by 31st March 2005 against AJOSE OLESUGUN of Nigeria and failure to comply with this requirement may result in the Title being declared vacant."
It strikes me that as witter is facing TBA on the 13th and Tackie has been inactive since hatton that this would be a good match up for whitter in terms of both his record his expireance and his credibility. Im not a great fan of the commonwealf belt as it isn't as valued by fighters as their europian or national belts but dose seem like a valied contest for witter to take.

Witter would shit his shorts at the thought of facing Tackie.

bollox he would, if you look down his record you will notice that unlike certain british fighters at his weight he hasn't ducked the better men of the devision and has taken top level fights weather we look at his recent contest Salvatore Battaglia who befor the fight was considered formidible or Zab Judah who he was willing to take after 17 fights.

That really is a ridiculous comment. A joke hopefully, but if it is a joke, it's not funny.

Potentially a good match.,
But dont see it doing much for Witter's career seeing as everyone knows Tackie is on the slide.
But then again who else is there that will fight Witter?

he would have to stop him in order to get more noticed, ie do one over tzsyu, hatton & mitchell

I wont deny that was a decent win but other than that who were his best wins against?
I may be wrong but didnt he avoid Magee like the plague a while back?
After the Judah fight his level of opposition has on the whole been a joke at best. As soon as he fights a guy who has a half decent dig he will revert back to the running man in my opinion.
Along with Arthur, Witter is the one domestic fighter that i cannot bring myself to like.
When put under pressure he will fold like oragami

Sorry but i just feel the credit he has been getting lately is undeserved and i doubt this match-up will happen.
Witters progress has been slower than a week in the cells.

To be fair he has stepped up his opponents of late and the Europian belt is nothing to be sniffed at (in genral I hold it in higher regard than the WBU belt because of the quality of the opponents you have to defend it against). Also I believe he would have taken the Hatton fight and Hatton has been pointedly ignoring him of late.
In terms of the worth of the fight, he is a recognised opponent who acts as a good yard stick for his devision. Ie you can judge fighters by how well they do against him. In many ways similar to the Mont Barret type of fighters not a star but a very good pro.

I agree Witters EBU belt is a lot more credible than that piece of shit Hatton holds.
Before you jump down my throat not saying Witter is better but Hattons belt is worthless and the EBU has prestige.
Of course Hatton is going to be fighting for the IBF belt soon so we neednt worry (yeah right).

You call dancing round the ring at 80 mph a fight...!!
Can I just remind you that after that snooze fest, showtime announced that Witter would never appear on one of their shows again...
It was f*cking embarresing but you can carry on telling yourself Witter is legit....

I hope this fight comes off, a Witter-Tackie bout would be interesting and i think that Witter may be catching him at the right time if he is the first to fight him after Tackie's long lay off as Tackie must be pretty rusty. It's time Witter stepped up in opposition after a rejuvinating run against some decent but hardly world beating foes, the Battaglia fight was definately a massive step in the right direction.
Eamonn Magee's return is very interesting, a Witter-Magee match would really tell us a lot about what either man has left to offer the sport.

no body at light welterweight wants to fight witter because of his style. They all have easier oponents they can face.nobody wanted to fight wrinky wright because there was easier opponents and when sugar shane faced wright, look what heppend.

Until we see Witter in against someone world class and win, it's very hard to say whether he is world class or not, it's not all down to how good you are, you have to have the right fights at the right time.
Tackie is a decent operator, but it's hard to say how much he has left to offer, he only fights name fighters for big paydays these days, and loses.
Decent win, but it's obviously less of a test that Hatton's win, maybe not by much, but Tackie has looked to be past his best for a while now, and he's inactive these days too.

I had the misfortune of paying through the nose to watch possibly the worst card ive ever seen live that night at Hampden - and it was pissing down with rain throughout.
Witters performance that night went down like a junkie hooker and the Scottish fans were none too impressed.

The best entertainment that night was the streaker during the Witter - Judah snoozefest. And he didn't even make it past the running track.

Witter needs to stop him to make any impact. He's got Tackie at the right time and I think if he plays his cards right he can do it. A bad performance will do his cause no good at all. Tackie is a scalp alright, but not a live one.

When did Ben Tackie become a Austrailian?
I think BOTH proposed matches are good tests for Witter, Olusegun looked crude but is very strong and you've got to be a pretty decent fighter to outclass Pryce.

Forgot about that
Another highlight was when Warren appeared on the big screens and the whole stadium started boo'ing, he then looked around to see who the boo's were aimed at not realising it was directed at him - pure classic moment :P

Pryce looked good on the way up, but hasn't looked good recently. not such a great win.

Tackie would almost certainly take Witter the distance, which would be a good thing considering Junior hasn't even been 6 rounds since the Judah match.
Ideal opponent.

I'd expect Witter to stop Tackie.

I'm not sure this is such a good fight for Witter.
Tackie is past his best, inactive, not as credible as he once was, and i'm pretty sure he's not that highly rated by any of the organisations. If Witter is serious about getting another title shot, and putting one over on Hatton in the process, then i'm not sure he can afford fights lke this one. He's thirty already, so it's time to get a move on.
N'Dou would be a decent fight, IMO. He's willing to fight anyone (even at fairly short notice), and i'm sure he wouldn't be asking for the world in terms of money. He'll also be much higher in all the rankings that Tackie, although obviously more of a risk. But it's getting very near that time when a big risk is exactly what Witter will need to take, if he's going to move above European and Commonwealth level.

Sure glitter but personally I'd be far happier watching Witter take a risk knowing he can handle the 12-round distance. Tackie might be something of a faded force but he's still a significant step up because of his world class toughness.

Tough but soooo limited.
Witter only comes out of this well if he stops Tackie, which is a huge ask. Tackie's been whitewashed by Tszyu Mitchell and Tackie. He hasn't won a round in his last three fights, so if he gets a couple against Witter then that's not great.
The reward for Witter is minimal, and the chances of a stoppage are slim. Remember Hatton's hands at the end of that one? He hit Tackie with everything.
