I can’t see Donaire not taking the fight - huge pay day after doing all the work to get to the final.

He’s going to get leathered though when he does.

Donaire has had it pretty good so far: an injury retirement and a win over a substitute.

His good fortune would end in a Flash if he actually decided to challenge Inoue.

Can’t disagree - he’ll take the fight and losing to Inoue provides the damage isn’t too bad still leaves him options and let’s be honest there’s not many Inoue isn’t beating around those weights.

I think so. AJ vs Wilder would be more of a chess match with a lot of jabbing and hesitation.

Donaire is about to get smashed to the body

If Nonito was in his prime it would be a very competitive bout IMO but at age 36 I think he gets steamrolled by Inoue in 8 rounds or less. Naoya is one of the best P4P fighters in the world right now!!

I've been following Inoue for so long that I was confused by people saying Rodriguez would be his biggest test. The only reason to doubt Inoue, to me, was history with Japanese fighters being 0-20 in world title fights in Europe... And that was clutching at straws.

Rodriguez, at least to me, had 2 wins of note and one of them saw him being hurt badly by body shots, a huge Inoue strength, and the other being against Paul fornicating Butler. He was stepping up so much.

Would love to hear why people were giving him half a chance, if you've got time, as I've obviously missed something :)

I understand mate - I was terribly wrong on this one just thought Rodriguez looked very BIG for the weight (on saturday and previously) and would be able to soak punishment for longer and perhaps drag a points decision (optimistic, I know!)

The little fella from Japan has dynamite in his hands - that face after the second knockdown told everything!

Always liked Donaire, but can't see this fight ending well for him.

He may have been competive with Burnett for the short time that fight lasted and he did look good against a late replacement last time out.
But Inoue is a different proposition altogether.

The way I see it, Donaire has two choices, either try to stay out of trouble for a few rounds and hope he slows down later on or go for him straight out the blocks and try to catch him cold.

I imagine both sets of tactics probably lead to a similar outcome.

Rodriguez is actually pretty good. I can tell you he was a world class amateur. He was on his way to become one of the most accomplished in the island. He won gold at the youth Olympics. First gold medal at an "Olympic" level for Puerto Rico so there were high hopes for his future. Then unfortunately he almost got burned alive with second degree burns on most of his body. It seemed like he was not going to make it out of the hospital. He recovered and went back to boxing about a year after the whole thing to try and make the 2012 summer games. He fell short in the qualifiers for the adult summer games against Jeyvier Cintron (a 2 time Olympian) and chose to turn pro.

So in a way you could say hes not just an ordinary fighter. The kid has real talent. I had seen him dominate in the amateurs since he was like 8 years old which makes Inoue's win that much more impressive to me.

As for Nonito I agree his best days are behind him.. This torunament run of his has been so perfect for this finale. Its like the stars aligned for Inoue to have his coming out party against an established marquee name. Great news for a division thats stacked with talent.

So will this one. Donaire was never at this level. He and Sergio are the two most overrated p4p guys in recent memory.

To be fair with Nonito he was competing at a pretty high level back then. Darchinian, Tyson Marquez, Montiel, Narvaez, Nishioka, Arce were high quality wins IMO
