Hughie Fury to fight another four times this year

Trainer and father Peter Fury has laid out a blueprint for Hughie Fury to return to world level – starting this Saturday night.

The former world heavyweight title challenger is back in action this weekend against dangerous and undefeated Canadian Chris Norrad (17-0, 8 KOs) at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse – live on Channel 5.

Having suffered a nasty cut early in October’s showdown with Kubrat Pulev, Peter believes Hughie’s education is preparing him to climb to the very top of the sport.

Peter said: “He’s having four fights this year. He’ll be busy. Then there’ll be three more. Every couple of months, he’ll be out on Channel 5.

“Channel 5 is a fantastic platform not just for him but for all the young fighters on the undercard. The audience levels are phenomenal because it’s free-to-air.

“I don’t think the cut bothered him too much since the Pulev fight. He’s had the laser treatment on it and the eye looks absolutely fine. It’s all good and he’s been sparring without problems.

“It’s all a part of growing up and taking your instructions. A young fighter can make a fight harder than it is. He’s got lots of potential and just has to unlock it.

“Hughie went into the fight with Pulev injured. Kerry Kayes looked at it and said it would open but we had the fight and we make no complaints. He did the best he could do in a bad situation. He had no vision in one eye and still did the rounds.”

Hughie fought twice last year – his first outing a devastating fifth-round stoppage victory over Sam Sexton to claim the British title.

That's good to hear. He needs the work. He can be a 'fair' hw.

They need to go smart with him going to Bulgaria was never a smart move and with a cut a couple of weeks out the fight should never have happened

Yes i was thinking the same,he's had a couple of nasty cuts and should that happen again they need to heal properly,4 fights this year is a big ask.

I'd like to believe that but.... 5 fights since 2016... It's hard to imagine him finally getting all these matches unless team Fury has finally conceded they need to fight Commonwealth level types and work their way up rather than try and force bigger matches.

That's a big pill for them to swallow, I am sure of it, but they dropped the ball when Hughie vacated the British belt just to chase Pulev in a fight nobody really had any interest in.

LOL! If he's going to fight four more time this year, you can bet it won't be against credible opponents.

He's young enough to handle a busy schedule, though it's a little optimistic to say 4 more fights this year. Another cut could put paid to that fairly quickly.
I have hopes that if Huggie is still motivated to fight and train- and be matched well- he could have a decent future in and around the top of the division in 5 years.
By then Tyson Fury and Wilder will be gone and you only have to look at the current crop of under 30 HW's to see I could be right in 5 years time. By then he will be 29 ( still young for a HW) and have maybe 35 fights or more if he does stay busy.

4 fights, and I won’t be watching any of them - handpicked opponents and their purses paid by Peter.

Yeh. He’s had 2 decent sized paydays at a young age where you might say he’s not fully developed yet.

Hennessy probably has a few dates to use on Channel 5. Cyclone sure aren’t gonna be using them.

4 fights in a year , Ok you would'nt want to fight Wilder , Whyte , Tyson and AJ in a year , But take away the top flight guys and He can do it easy , , just keep ticking over , and change the training around too suit , Ameteurs will fight 4 times in a big competition .. Hughie fighting so so opposition once every 3 months , i would suggest if he can't do it , Go sell cars

Not four times in a year. Four times THIS year. He can't even stay healthy.

Should be managable , grab a couple of Aussies out of the Fred Brophy boxing tent , finish with a polish taxi driver short of a quid , and the grand final at xmas , a fight with Price , when he loses that one they can start again next year

It’s already nearly June. He’d have to fight every other month. Peter said it’s doable. I believe so too.

I've always quite enjoyed 5s coverage.

Also not quite sure why hughie fury gets so much hate. A REALLY young pup who has already travelled to face pulev and had a crack at a world title vs Parker, in a fight he made very close. It's not like he's an arrogant, mouthy twat or completely without skill.

hes absolutely boring as f@ck and was super negative in both his big fights, which he lost , i can understand it. he really doesnt have the style, results, or personality to have many fans. not sure the drugs business or 'shades of ali' helps either

also, ya hes young, but have we really seen much improvment in him at all?

as much as it often makes sense to assume young guys will get better, sometimes it just doesnt really happen much

So he's going to pull a "Conor Benn" for the next 7 fights. I can't wait. Thought he was going to be the youngest world champion in history?

Problem Hughie has is he seems to be a very likable , polite young man who listens to his father , which is great , but the problem here is the father seems to be looking through rose colored glasses , juyst like most fathers do .. Now From what i can see , Peter Fury knows his boxing , and loves the don't get hit style , only problem is when you spend most of the rnd trying not to get hit , you don'nt land bugger all .

Hence for fundamentals and basics , excellent coach , but now its time for Hughie to go else where, and learn to sit on his punches ,and get more spite in his game, and it WILL NOT happen , with his father , he will always have Peter in the background chastising and telling him off for risking getting hit , and not being defensive .

In fact Peter is a good coach i suspect Hughie has already been taught , its just that he's not encouraged , or told to be spitefull , he always has defence first and foremost . Hughie needs a different camp its simple has that , probably both trainer and promoter ,, and i don't mean Ben Davidson , he really just keeps Tyson on track doing what Peter and previous coaches already done ,

He needs someone who himself, and Peter have the utmost respect for, and both agree on , otherwise it will never work for him . Peter needs to respect the coach or he will always stick his nose in , ITS CALLED FATHER AND SON , does'nt always work
