I didnt see this fight. I should probably go watch it but I'm told Joshua was possibly losing the fight before the KO. Is this actually true or was it just the standard "oh the big underdog isnt getting blown out so I'm gonna score rounds for him" thing we see from alot of posters?

Povetkin in my opinion won the first 3 rounds convincingly.

It was what's in bold. Joshua was in control of the fight and sized up Povetkin before taking him out. Pov had moments and that's all.

At the time of the stoppage, all three judges scored the fight 58-56 to Anthony Joshua.
After six rounds, I scored the fight 57-57 (with AJ winning the first, fourth & sixth). The rounds weren’t easy to score.
It could have been 58-56 either way, but I felt that at least one of the judges should have given Povetkin more credit, but AJ was competing on home turf.
Had Povetkin survived the seventh round, entering the eighth, AJ would have either been leading on everyone’s scorecards or at least had the fight all square.
I seem to recall at the time of the stoppage that Povetkin had started to fade, with AJ gaining complete control over the winning momentum.

maybe he was in control but he gave away most of rounds... you can lose rounds and still control the fight

it was 4-2, maybe even 5-1 Povetkin until the KO. the official scorecards were considered to be totally incorrect by most of the fans. also, the punch stats were very controversial - not the first time when the compubox stats were completely wrong.
you should watch this fight, it was an enterteining contest

Probably gave away two. Nothing unusual. He was up 4-2 4-2 and I think 4-1-1 at the time of the stoppage. Only six rounds scored, so we shouldn't get too carried away.

Official scorecards I was referring to. I had it 3-2-1 Joshua, first couple of rounds were close but didn't think Pov was winning rounds like other posters say.

AJ's jab to the body done the job in this fight. He adjusted well to the situation in the ring as well. to me it's obvious that Povetkin won at least 4 rounds though with his activity and pressure, he actually landed some good clean punches. the compubox stats were terribly wrong.

That's what I like about AJ. He sizes up his opponent, showing patience and a pretty good ring IQ.

After reviewing the round-by-round scoring of this forum and several others, coupled with the info. from the eyeonthering.com website, almost everyone (barring the commentators, the judges and myself) scored the first round to Povetkin.
However, almost nothing happened during that round. Both guys were very cautious. They were throwing shots whilst being out-of-range – punching thin air. Nothing really landed.
Povetkin did connect with a decent left hand during the dying seconds, which caught the Brit when he was off-balance. And AJ landed a powerful two-punch combination to the head and the body around the 90-second mark, which caused the Russian to briefly retreat. Other than that, nothing of note happened.
The round could have gone either way, but for some reason almost everyone gave it to Povetkin. It wasn’t an easy round to score, since it almost certainly wasn’t one-sided in nature, because nothing really happened.
So I’m inclined to believe that bias often compels neutrals watching from home to award evenly-contested rounds to the overachieving underdog, rather than scoring it 10-10 or giving the benefit of the doubt to the hometown crowd favourite.

I had Povetkin 4-2 up, but saying that, I think Joshua started off slow to size up his opponent. A lot of close rounds too. Once Joshua got into his stride, it was obvious there was only going to be one winner. It's not like he was struggling then got a KO from nowhere.

as far as i remember, Povetkin was coming forward, he threw slighty more and he landed the best punch of the round (a good combination that broked AJ's nose and wobbled him). maybe it was quite close but Povetking was good enough to give him this round. it sometimes happens in boxing that a fight scored for example 118-110 was much closer than the result says. most of rounds were close but the fighter A was slighty better in the vast majority of them. Povetkin wasn't dominant but slighty better in most of rounds, imo.

Povetkin was beating up on Joshua and broke his nose before he ran out of gas. No surprise they don't show the full fight online. They always want to hype their cash cows, in this case Joshua, and show them at their best. Same reason it is so hard to find round eight of Ortiz vs. Wilder, except that one was just outrageous in your face cheating. Also no surprise, watching a few rounds of what an older Povetkin could do to Joshua, that Wilder's handlers, with the help of the friendly Las Vegas NeVADA crew, weaseled him out of their scheduled fight with a little younger Povetkin in Russia by cooking up a phony drug charge.
