The purse bid for the ordered fight between WBA "regular" heavyweight champion Manuel Charr and the interim champ of the WBA, Trevor Bryan, was suspended after the two sides reached an agreement to fight for the "regular" belt of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

The purse bid was scheduled for May 28th in Panama City, but the individual teams of the boxers informed the sanctioning body that there was already a pact and that the fight will be held without the need to carry out any type of purse bid.

In an estimated period of 20 days - the location, date, and conditions of the fight will be communicated between the native of Syria and the American who for months has been waiting for the opportunity to challenge the champion.

Charr will make the first defense of the belt he won with a knockout of Alexander Ustinov in November 2017. The undefeated Bryan earned the right to face Charr after winning the interim belt in August of last year with a battering of BJ Flores and now wants to fight for the regular belt.

The Syrian native champion Charr has a record of 31 wins, 4 losses, and 17 knockouts while his undefeated challenger, Bryan, has a record of 20 wins, no losses, and 14 knockouts.

It’s kind of challenging to predict the outcome of a fight between an inactive, unimpressive but unbeaten fighter that has never beaten anyone of note, versus an equally unimpressive PED using opponent that hasn’t competed for 19 months, but has tasted defeat to every decent foe he faced, despite both guys possessing utterly ridiculous secondary WBA titles.

I’m not sure if I possess sufficient imagination and creativity to fabricate a compelling reason to watch this bout, under the pretence that both competitors are competing for a legitimate world title. :brick:

Bryan should win this, but he's hardly a world beater. I hesitate to call Charr a step up.

Bryan is such an unknown. He has zero credibility in his resume.
Charr is a top 20-30 heavyweight even though no one will admit it.
This fight is interesting to me. I have no idea who will win

No he would not beat Charr.
And the majority of the top 20 are on some type of peds.

Having read this thread, my initial thought on the argument was that I wouldn’t rate Charr top 30 but only because he hasn’t boxed for more than a year so I would consider him ineligible for ranking and as soon as he steps in the ring he would indeed be a top 30 boxer.
HOWEVER, taking a look at Boxrecs top 30 heavies, I’m struggling to see who he would be the favourite against.

Go to 40 and you'll still struggle. :TU:

Not easy to predict, one man has been inactive for over a year and the other hasn't fought anyone really proven at a high level.

Bryan, admittedly has been more active but both his fights in 2017 really could be seen as warm up fights for a up and coming boxer rather then preparations for a even an interim title fight, and his sole fight in 2018 was for the interim WBA world title against an opponent who hadn't fought for over a year and was 11 years his senior.

Charr, his four losses have come against genuinely high ranked opponents. Vitali Klitschko - I don't need to say anymore there really, Alexander Povetkin who has just fought Anthony Joshua for the world Title(s) and is still ranked in the top 10, Johann Duhaupas who is inactive currently but fought Wilder for the WBC title after beating Charr and really is probably still on par skill wise with most contenders and has more experience and then Mairis Briedis who is ranked as one of the best cruiserweights in the world right now and is fighting for the WBC Diamond championship and the Interim WBO world title in his next match.

Bryan is a up an coming contender and with more progress against bigger named opposition he may be a future world challenger but in terms of experience at the top i'd say Charr edges him and will probably look to take the fight over the distance and take a decision or let Bryan expend too much energy in the early rounds and take the win in the later rounds.

Well at least they'll get rid of a belt.

He can be the special referee wearing an Honorary Replica Interim Regular WBA heavyweight belt. His hand gets raised at the end of the fight regardless of who wins.

A close fight of two stiffs. Bryan is fresher, what will probably be a key factor.

Don King won a purse bid worth $2m.

Didn’t know he even had that much.

Second highest and only bid was $1,200,000 from Global Sports Management..

As part of King’s bid. He has requested the split be changed from 75-25 to 55-45, so Bryan, who he promotes, can make a bigger payday.

Charr can fukk off! Who gives a piss about him really? And why hasn't he been stripped of that plastic title since he's not fought in about 3 years! Joke!

2 million for that fight seems outrageous. that said, if his guy can win, then i guess he can then go take a loss against someone wanting a fake belt for a bit of cash.

I can see Whyte or Joyce/Dubois squashing the winner before the end of the year.
