Hated So Much You Wanted to See Them Lose

Floyd Mayweather for me... But... After Canelo I became something of a fan... I just couldn't see how good/great the guy was for years and years saying that our era must be a piss poor era because shoulder rolls wouldn't have stopped Thomas Hearns, etc. from kicking his ass.

Just how good/great he was will probably always be a matter of contention, but look at all the names. It's difficult to argue against that he wasn't a top thirty-top fifty something all time fighter.

The only fighter I've ever truly hated was Gerald McClellan, so that worked out fine.

But, I've found myself rooting against fighters periodically mainly when they have a rabid fan base that talks as if their favorite guy is far and away the greatest fighter ever. For a fan of sports history, it can be a little hard to deal with. It sucks because sometimes it makes me root against fighters that I actually really like, which is weird.

Incidentally, it's not unique to boxing, fans do it in other sports as well and it's just as annoying.

It would be Mike Tyson, not that I hated him, but the way people went on and on about him being the greatest thing since sliced bread.

FMM, just too smug and flash for me, I always wanted him to see him thoroughly beaten beyond any doubt.

Terry Norris. Why? He only selected to fight guys that he knew he could beat like overweight great boxers like Meldrick Taylor and washed up legends like Donald Curry, Simon Brown and the great Sugar Ray Leonard. I was very happy when Brown knocked him out. When he fought Julian "The Hawk" Jackson, someone his equal, got knocked out. He ducked Felix "Tito" Trinidad.
He never asked The Hawk for a rematch. He never risked to fight the middleweights. He only wanted to fight greats like Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker, guys that were too small for him and spotted him at least 14 pounds under him.
A lot of people were high on him, like he was something especial. But, when Brown knocked him out, I rested my case against his so called fans.

I also didn't like the great Mike Tyson after he joined promoter Don King. He started to talk more than usual and did less. Before that, he just kept his mouth shut and kicked your azz! Then, kiss you and bye bye! That was the Tyson that I really liked.

I'll love it when Tyson Fury loses. I love anytime the Dirrell's lose. I always loved it when Robert Guerrero got beat up, the Omar Figueroa loss was especially enjoyable.

I loved it when Maidana beat the sh*t out of Broner. That one was double fun because I hated Broner, and loved Maidana.

I've come around on him enough that I don't really want to see him lose anymore unless it's to Anthony Joshua for all the marbles. I don't want anything lesser to be messing up a true Heavyweight megafight.

Ive been rooting against him for years. Cant stand the guy. Ive been praying for someone to get lucky and take him down but it just never happened. What I would say though is he's in the latter reaches of a top ten all time p4p for me. His record is incredible and his last ten fights he didn't look like losing, The names on his record are amazing and the canelo win (which was so easy) looks better by the year. Still praying he comes out of retirement and gets koed lol.

Compare his undefeated record to Marciano's. Rocky has 4 top top fighters on his record - louis, moore, walcott and charles. Floyd has at least a dozen on his.

I liked his personality, it was low key. But the HW division would have been a lot more interesting if Foreman had beaten Young in San Juan.

Tyson . . . not because . . . . but because . . . back in '73 when I was still pretty much a kid and first heard and then saw Foreman destroy Frazier, and then all that followed that. I was certain and I told everyone I was certain, that no one beats Foreman, . . . and then of course someone did.

Flash Foreword 18 years to the late '80s and Tyson's run to the title, and there is me, an older and actually wiser me trying to share my 'fight game wisdom' with my friends, by saying things like 'Tyson's great but anyone can be beaten, no one is unbeatable.' . . . No one was listening.

I even had a doctor explain to me that the size of Iron Mike's neck muscles made it impossible for him to be knocked out because his neck was incapable of snapping back hard enough to cause unconsciousness. (Really he said that.).

I didn't hate Tyson but I hated the 'sports fans' who all suddenly had become fight fans and worst yet, fight experts.

But I knew all I had to do was wait. Now I ain't claiming I saw Tokyo coming that night, I didn't, but I knew something like Tokyo was coming and all I had to do was wait for it; and then when it did I was really smug about it.

Hector Camacho, Broner and Hamed. I grew to appreciate Camacho as he was SO skilled early on and was truly saddened by his death. Broner every time I root against him. No class thug. Hamed just a blow hard.

I can't stand the sight of Oscar DeLaHoya.
I really don't know why. I just don't like him
