Andy Ruiz defeated Anthony Joshua. OMG !
This is the greatest upset since 2000, for me.
What about you ?

Andy just got there first. Fury, Wilder, Usyk, Ortiz and an improved Whyte could have done the job.

But those would not have been as big.

It's an upset but it's not a total shock to me. Ruiz is a good, world level fighter and Joshua isn't as good as his reputation suggested he was. The pick of his wins were against too fighters past their best Povetkin and Klitschko (and the Wlad fight could've gone either way) and a points decision against Joseph Parker who I thought Ruiz beat when they fought before.

It's my favorite upset.
I love that AJ and Wilder lost a fortune by ducking each other.
I wish I could have seen Hearn's face after the stoppage.

He wasn't up front? I would think maybe he'd have been on camera as it was all going down.

Maybe I missed it because I was too busy laughing and cheering.

Fury-Klitschko was still a bigger upset.
Fury unexpectedly utterly outclassed Wlad from the first seconds, while Ruiz used a mistake of Joshua. I mean, Fury had a lesser basic for his win, he made everything himself.
Furthermore, Wlad was the universally recognized king of the division, while today we have Fury and Wilder and quite some amount of people pick them instead of AJ.

It absolutely wasn't. Ruiz kicked AJ's ass. Fury stood there and did little while Wlad stood there, and did less. Ruiz actually won a fight.

And Joshua did too much, more than he should. What would have been, if AJ didn't jump on Ruiz after scorimg a KD? No one knows. But still I don't want to minimize Ruiz' abilities and value of his win. He showed heart, concentration and skill to catch Joshua at that episode and he had enough of all that stuff not to let Joshua go after turning the fight in his favor.

It's certainly not an "off the wall" upset like Douglas-Tyson, but not far off. AJ you could argue was not mentally there as he was training for the one dimensional Jarrell Miller and then has to fight a tough, quick, underrated Ruiz with weeks to go. It's more on par with Lewis-Rahman, where Lewis's head wasn't in the game dreaming of fighting Wladimir Klitschko instead.

It’s not a big particularly big upset.
Even though many of us expected AJ to win, a lot of us still appreciated Andy’s pugilistic talents.
So he always stood a chance, admittedly one that was slimmer than his physique.

Not really. Joshua has always been an accident waiting to happen. That was clear during the Klitschko fight.
Though I must admit I didn't expect Ruiz to be the guy. But I wasn't especially shocked when it played out the way it did.

No doubt, not even in the ballpark.

Some of us have been saying this for years lad. We're not being revisionists after the event. It was a shock but not that big a shock.

This surprised me on a Tyson/Douglas level. Oddly, I was surprised Josh dropped him so early, then the show really picked up.

Again, just like Fury, Douglas was good from the beginning. And AJ-Ruiz fight started as it should before all that stuff happened.

I knew Douglas was good. Fury was the first wlad fight I watched since haye. I certainly didn't pick Tyson, but I watched because I gave him a mild shot. I watched tonight because nothing else was on. Good for you if you recognized Ruiz abilities. I did not.

It was only a huge shock if you were in denial. People built Joshua up to be unbeatable when the flaws were always there.
I didn't think Ruiz would be the guy to do it though. So in that sense it was a shock.

Fair enough.
I felt similarly about Tyson v Douglas. I knew a good big man would take Tyson as soon as he lost his edge. I felt he had done that prior to that fight so that one was not a shock at all to me.

I was chosing both Klitschko and AJ confidently, but then I was sure in Klitschko for 99% and now for about 90% in Joshua.
