According to very small obituaries in the Tri-City
Herald and the Los Angeles Times, Jimmy McLarnin,
96, passed away last Thursday in Richland, WA.
But there hasn't been any mention of McLarnin's
death in the national media (except for the
mentioned two newspapers) and the boxing
websites (except for the Cyber Boxing Zone
message board).

My condolences and respects go to the McLarnin family. What a fighter!!! I don't think that nobody in boxing has beaten more Hall of Famers than he did. Among his ring victims: Pancho Villa, Benny Leonard, Barney Ross, Lou Ambers and Tony Canzoneri...HE'S AN ALL TIME GREAT BY ANYBODY'S STANDARDS!!! :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU:

..i can't understand why my morning chicago tribune doesn't have an obit...and a big one...on this story. mclclarnin was one of the bests and most famous fighters of his day. sometimes somebody on the copy desk picks up on stories like this so maybe one will be coming. he certainly deserves much more.

was he the oldest living ex champion next to schmeling?

Sorry to hear of his passing. I heard he was in poor health in recent years, but I think he lived a long, fruitful life in the decades after his retirement from the ring. If only we could have more happy endings for ex-pugs.
Every fight fan has to see his series against Barney Ross. A Hall of Fame match-up. Tons of skill, heart, sportsmanship.
Jimmy, you were a credit to the boxing profession.
May the wind be always at your back
May the rain fall gently upon your fields
May the road rise to meet you
And until we meet again
May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand

Jimmy was the second-oldest living former World Champion, behind Max Schmeling. Who now is the second-oldest living champ?
