British, Commonwealth and European light welterweight champion Junior Witter has issued a no nonsense challenge to Floyd Mayweather Junior, arguably the world’s best pound for pound fighter. “Come on Pretty Boy, lets get it on,” said Witter, who defends his European Title against Poland’s Krzysztof Bienias on the November 12th Hennessy Sports ‘Born To Do It’ promotion at the Wembley Conference Centre.

“You have a HBO date in January but no opponent yet, so here I am. Come get me.
“If you want to be in a real, made for TV fight, that will please the fans I am your only option.

“You may be WBC #1 but you won’t be fighting champion Arturo Gatti anytime soon as he is defending against Leija.

“There is no fear of WBC # 2 stepping up to meet you either; Branco is scared of his own shadow.

“He has already turned down a fight against me. Not that I blame him; I wouldn’t fancy being on the end of one of my shots either.

“So who is next in line, who is the WBC # 3? Oh yes, that’s me - the best light welterweight in Europe.

“I am about to prove I am the best in the world. If you want to play with the big boys at 140lb, lets go.”

Witter has already fought at the highest level, when he took Zab Judah the distance as a novice with the IBF title on the line. He received undue criticism for that affair.

“The people who talked me down after that fight need to acquaint themselves with the facts,” Witter added.

“I took that contest on seven days notice after every other leading contender turned the opportunity down. “I was a baby and nowhere near full fitness, but I still made the golden boy of the time look terrible.

“Despite my own concerns over my stamina, I took Judah the distance and only lost down the Championship stretch.

“For me it was nothing but a positive experience. It filled me with confidence, told me that with more notice I could have become world champion, even at that early stage.

“Just look at what I have done since: knocked out everyone of my fourteen opponents before the fifth round. Only three of them made it past the third.

“I haven’t been beating bums either. In the process I have won the British, Commonwealth and European titles.

Witter added: “I am a different fighter now, far more aggressive; I go in throwing knockout shots from every angle.

“I would do exactly the same against Mayweather. It would be a real war, but I would undoubtedly be the last man standing.

“Take note, I will call it right here and now: Witter beats Mayweather, by way of the big KO.

“Don’t confuse me with Ricky Hatton, another so called British light welterweight talent. He has avoided me for two years because he knows I would knock him out.

“I am a genuine contender, prepared to fight anybody, on the way up.

“I am not damaged goods like so many others you could choose to fight instead.

“But you are a proven champion, I don’t expect you to take the easy route, even if you may be worried I might spoil your looks or your friend Zab has warned you about me.

“If you do take the easy route, the person you will be letting down the most is yourself.”

Mayweather would give Witter a severe beating and send him all the way back to Sheffield to continue his career on undercards.

Dont think it would be that bad a fight.

Witter would have a punchers chance and i doubt Mayweather could hurt him much either.

I say Good on Witter, Reading that article he sounds really motivated and wants the big fight. Mayweather may be good but could he take Witters power (i don't know how good Mayweathers chin is only seen him fight once), and remember even if the fight did come off and Witter lost but put on a good performance and the fight was a good one he would still be looked upon as one of the major men in the division, surely people would repect him if he could push the number 1 pound 4 pound all the way in a close fight, so i say its a win-win situation for Witter,(provided Mayweather doesn't KO Witter early ), go on lad.

I doubt Mayweather knows who Witter is, nor cares....this Press realease is just about trying to get Witter's name in the press....

winnable fight for Witter IMO.

Mayweather is hard to hit, but Witter throws those silly shots that you wouldnt expect. Fighting a british bum Floyd would come in under motivated.

Well, there's NO chance he'll get this fight. Starting to feel a bit sorry for old Junior - he's still paying the price for his no-show against Zab, and that was some time ago.
At least he has the excuse of short notice ( against a top 10 P4P fighter at the time, possibly ) Nelson had plenty of time in his first two shots, and his performance made Witter's look like Rocky Graziano.
But Johnny ended up as WBO champ in the end.....

Witter deserves a break about now, but he'll probably have to take on a dangerman to get it ( yes, like Pinto )

Will Pinto ever be the same after that loss to Cotto, to be honest i thought Pinto looked terrible in that fight, way to Chinny IMO, I think Witter could take Pinto out, but i'd still prefer Witter to go for the bigger boys.

Yeah, he didn't look all he was cracked up to be did he? Mind you, he was in with a real bad ass that night. What I meant was, Witter better not turn down anymore fights like he did with Pinto.

Witter did pull out of a Pinto fight though....

The cynic in me thinks that Witter sees a fight with Floyd as one he will probably lose without getting hurt badly (i.e UD 12), and be well paid for, and still leave his European title level career firmly intact and unscathed.

What dangerous opponents had Hatton fought recently??? Ever.... Magee is about the most dangerous and he couldnt win a european title.

I've got no time for Hatton, but what's the point in saying his level of opposition isn't higher than Witter's when that just isn't true?

Have you actually seen the Judah fight? He took the fight on 7 days notice and made Judah look pedestrian for a few rounds. Judah was a pound for pounder at the time. His poor stamina gave out (7 days notice) and he went into survival mode. Nothing at all to be ashamed about, at leaast we KNOW he has ambition and we KNOW he has the balls to fight the best. That's all I'm saying. Witter is the real deal and will beat the best. And you can't compare Takaloo wanting to fight DLH to Witter calling out Mayweather. Don't be an idiot.

Lirva33 - I was at the fight and although I haven't seen the fight on tape since (one of the worst nights of boxing I have been to), all I can remeber was Witter running backwards all night. Ifmy meory is letting me down, please let me know.

This is a publicity stunt pure and simple - his career is going nowhere, he is earning rubbish money and doesn't know what to do about it.

You should watch the tape again. I've watched the fight a few times and Witter didn't perform nearly as badly as people make it out.
