AJ's dad has come out and said his son suffered a panic attack in the dressing room before the fight, delaying the ring walk. His dad asked Hearn to cancel the fight but he wouldnt.

I think this is a plausible reason why AJ wasnt looking himself.

Having suffered panic attacks myself I understand what goes on inside the head when this happens.

mmm - it is interesting though when interviewed by Michelle Joy Phelps immediately after the fight - MJP asked about a "spat" between Eddie and HIS dad (Bazza) and Eddie kept saying "you mean AJ's dad" - 2 or 3 times he kept wondering if MJP had her wires crossed but sounded like there was something between Eddie and AJ's dad.

A panic attack for me starts by the heart beating really hard, you can feel it in your neck. This makes me start to feel sick but it makes your brain start to worry and exaggerate the things you are thinking about.

The cynic in me did wonder if this was something that was getting put out as an excuse for Joshua's loss, and hype up Joshua's chances in the rematch.

But probably seems a bit far-fetched. Would be pretty low for everyone to stoop. Feigning mental illness, and a split in the camp.

Every myth seem to be busted. AJs skill, invincibility, the cool/calm/no nerves, Carl Froch saying "look at him, he's so cool, never changes" blah blah. I feel sorry for the guy right now but he is a multi millionaire so there is that

If he did have a panic attack then yes,as someone who also suffers from panic attacks i would agree with you. If he did have a panic attack then it would make sense of him saying "why do i feel like this". I find with panic attacks its fight or flight i usually flight,get away from where ever i am as soon as possible and regroup.
I feel for Joshua if this is true because i would hate to walk into an arena with 20,000 people all cheering plus the thought of the millions watchin on tv around the world.

Also small issues can seem like a really big deal,you get a very dry mouth which could explain why he seemed to have trouble with the gum shield and you get tired very easily.The pressure going into a rematch would be enormous as he knows he didn't make a small mistake and get hit with one big shot,he systematically got beaten up and Ruiz is a tough man who got up and give it back,something he hasn't seen before.

Panic attacks arent very nice at all as someone above says you feel the fight or flight and it then depends on which course of action you take. I feel like im waiting for the police to visit my home and arrest me for something I may have done years ago.

Mental illness isnt very nice for the sufferer and if AJ's dad is making this up then its a really poor show.

From my experience of people I know who have had panic attacks or I've seen in the midsts of a panic attack - there is NO WAY AJ suffered one in the changing room...... or if he did it was a LONG LONG time before the fight was scheduled to start - there is no way he would have got out of that changing to fight.

Dave Allen did seem like he was not just the best boxing pundit / expert in his post fight interview with IFL, actually a boxing prophet..... clearly something happened in sparring - but I still don't feel AJ suffered a full blown panic attack just prior to the fight.

Maybe everyone is reading too much into the loss. Maybe its just the best man won on the night but making false stories and excuses is pretty bad.

Also you never know in sparring it could be possible a sparring partner has given him a bloody good outing and knocked him down and thats stayed with him right into the fight and scared him somewhat.

Yeah I get this every now and then and I'm the same, I disappear and regroup. To be fair to AJ, if he was suffering, he did the opposite, stood there a fought. Fair play, if it is true of course lol

Ummm yeah, it's different to Lennox re-matching Rahmann. Lewis was so supremely confident and focused. He knew in his heart the first fight was a complete fluke and he'd win the rematch easy. Different from AJ

Exactly, Lewis had pretty much won every minute of the first Rahman fight before getting ko’d out of nowhere. Joshua was beaten up for most of his fight.
