That part about not putting weight on your neck - damn how true that is! I used to do a lot of neck exercises including heavy neck straps and bridges and other resistance exercises, the theory being it would make me punch resistant - but I also used to have a lot of neck pain. Doctors x-rayed me and said, "Boy, your cervical spine is all f'd up and that's why you got neck pain live with it. Pay the turnkey $100 and she'll buzz you out . Next!" Freakin doctors it is best to stay far away from them if you can. I finally stopped doing neck exercises and guess what? My neck pain totally disappeared! By the way that all goes double for back exercises tell me about it.

Same here. Almost the entire story you posted. Ended up herniated two discs in my neck...OUCH! Been fine for years now.

Oh man. Permanent damage? I hope not. Once I was doing neckstraps with heavy weights and I went way forward - and that's another very bad thing to do with necks or any other exercise but esp. necks - doing the "full range of motion" thing. Something snapped and it hurt so bad and I was flying a long distance the next day and my neck hurt so bad i couldn't even turn it. It's amazing it recovered from that.

Left thumb is numb to this day from nerve damage. Left elbow gets pain sometimes and of course, I have to admit, the neck can be some trouble, but rarely.

Sorry to hear that. I got off easy with my neck, not so with my lower back.

ooooo...lower back brings in bigger muscles...must suck. I'd prefer neck to back any day. Sorry to hear that too! (geez we're in bad shape)

Great to hear from Big George Foreman again, always sounds really upbeat, positive and talks a lot of sense.
If AJ brought in George just as an advisor I think it'd be worth it. Have the input and advice from one of the all time great heavyweights. Can't hurt to have that sort of help.

I’m not sure about Foreman’s critique of AJ’s training methods, since I doubt the American has ever seen the Brit train in person. Snippets of videos from social media doesn’t count.
However, I do think he’s right about AJ needing to take time to rebuild and implement changes to cater for the things that went wrong last weekend, rather than activating the immediate rematch clause in knee-jerk fashion.
Foreman seems confident that AJ will almost certainly rebound and become a much better fighter due to gaining fear of being stopped or being scared of losing again, but I’m not so sure myself.
Even though Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, Bernard Hopkins, Johnny Nelson, Wladimir Klitschko, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield all managed to recover from losses to become better fighters or continue gaining success, others, such as: Mike Tyson, Jeff Lacy, Naseem Hamed, Adrien Broner, John Mugabi, Ricky Hatton, Sergey Kovalev and Felix Trinidad etc. noticeably declined after losing their unbeaten records.
AJ’s main strength is his offence, with his defensive technique considered as being flawed, but what if the Brit becomes gun-shy due to fear of being on the receiving-end of the sort of counters that Andy Ruiz Jr. managed to land almost at will?
He’ll have all the tools at his disposal to punish his opponents with his heavy-handed blows, but they’ll become redundant if he’s reluctant to pull the trigger due to fear of being countered. We actually saw this happen last weekend.
AJ has already said that he fully intends to continue working with Rob McCracken and nor will he alter the make-up of his training team, so his pugilistic skills are unlikely to change significantly. It’ll simply be a case of more of the same, but with far more caution. And I fear that might not be enough to avenge the Ruiz Jr. loss.

You’re talking like he’s David price

I think it could be a coin toss myself. This defeat could either improve him, or he could become a worst fighter due to the traumatic nature of his loss.
And there’s no denying that sometimes hyped-up fighters, such as those I previously mentioned, noticeably declined after losing their unbeaten records.
Look what happened to Roy Jones Jr. after the Antonio Tarver loss. The same thing could potentially happen to AJ, but then again it might not… who knows? It’s not unreasonable to speculate.
George Foreman is obviously an optimistic guy, but the polar opposite of what he’s said is equally likely.
Is it easy for a fighter to maintain or increase their hunger, desire, discipline and constantly seek improvement in their chosen trade when they’ve got hundreds of millions of dollars in the bank?
As Marvin Hagler once said: "It's hard to get out of bed to go for a run at 5 o'clock in the morning when you're wearing silk pyjamas."

the mystique is gone. aj is not a cautious fighter. hes attacking and exciting, a little reckless.
sure he can come back, but that confidence will be dented.

You guys are cracked. AJ is fine. All that he did was make a bad decision going in for the kill against a flash knockdown. Veterans know the difference and his experience didn’t and he got caught in the worst possible location of the head that you can. He needed hours to recover not 15 minutes while dodging punches to the same exact spot.
AJ will be fine in rematch and I guarantee an early ko
