Commonwealth bantamweight champion Lee McGregor has promised to display the best ever version of himself when he defends his title against Scott Allan on a huge #MTKFightNight event in Glasgow next week.

McGregor (6-0, 5 KOs) puts his belt on the line against compatriot Allan (9-3-1) at the Emirates Arena on June 22, live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and also live on iFL TV.

It’s only McGregor’s second fight since linking up with new trainer Grant Smith in Sheffield, and he feels the time they’ve now spent together will pay dividends against Allan.

McGregor said: “I’m buzzing to get back in the ring so soon after my last fight as this is what I’m in the game for, to be fighting regularly and defending and winning more belts.

“It was straight back to work for me after the last fight. I’ve had a great camp for this fight and left no stone unturned, so I’m excited to be fighting again.

“In my last fight I hadn’t had much time with my new trainer and there were other things happening in the background, so it wasn’t the ideal position to be in but I can promise everyone you will see the best version of myself on June 22.

“It’s been great at the new gym and I’ve fit in really well. I’ve had some fantastic sparring with both Sunny and Charlie Edwards for this fight so preparation has been spot on.

“Scottish boxing is certainly booming at the moment and I’m honoured to be apart of it. I hope to contribute in some way by helping to bring huge nights back to Scotland.”

McGregor vs. Allan is part of a massive #MTKFightNight event in Glasgow, that also features Kieran Smith defending his WBC International title against Ivan Montero, Lewis Benson taking on Renald Garrido, recent world title challenger Muhammad Waseem facing John Chuwa, plus many more.

I'm liking the fact that this is an all Scottish match up but truth be told this is a poor defence for McGregor, no disrespect to Allan, I remember the papers up here were pushing him pretty hard, he was getting a lot of press and I remember before the first Farooq fight he was a big favourite and it was a bit of an upset when he lost, even in the rematch a lot of people thought Allan had just underestimated Farooq and would put things right in the rematch but he got stopped and obviously Farooq went on to win the British and is highly thought of these days

McGregor has never been able to capatalise after knocking out Essomba in the last round to win the Commonwealth, he learned a lot that night and showed a lot of skill and will to come through with the stoppage but after managerial issues his progress has sort of stalled, he's a great boxer though and he should deal with Allan pretty swiftly

The British/Commonwealth unification with Farooq is a must soon though

Always found Allan’s fight end up scrappy/messy and invariably cuts.

Who would you favour in that one?

Last I heard they are lining up one more defence of the British title for Farooq before making the McGregor fight for towards end of the year.

The ref was the only person in the hall who thought Benson won. Even Benson asked his corner 3 times “I’m I getting beat “
Commentators also thought that he lost.

Both were fairly hyped up before turning over, Hutchinson more so because he was youth World amateur champ

Thought the stoppage was a tad harsh on Allan as was the knockdown just beforehand, watched the replay a few times and it still hard to tell where the McGregor's left hook landed before Allan fell, it looked maybe a balance issue with the shot partially blocked, maybe a bodyshot?

I thought it was close fight with McGregor's size and strength coming through in the end, Allan made it a lot tougher than I thought he would especially before the end when he looked like he was maybe clawing things back, he switched throughout and caught McGregor with some cute counters, McGregor looked massive compared to him and his punches always had that more snap, especially the uppercuts on the inside, there was no doubt Allan was coming apart at the time of the stoppage, badly cut from a punch and looking ragged as McGregor teed of on him but he was throwing back and maybe should've been allowed to carry on but not the worst stoppage by any means

Good win for McGregor but still a lot to work on

At this stage, who you reckons wins? Him or Kash Farooq?

I think lee is very good but kash beats him imo, he gets hit to much and as much as I amnt a fan of mcguigan people very rarely do better when they leave it seems. As for scott I have watched him since he was a boy kickboxing and he should be very proud of his performance, showed alot of grit and imo he needs to move down a weight as I believe he really has a chance to achieve there. The fight last night it seemed every time he went southpaw lee found it easier to handle which had the opposite effect on what they expected. Good fight though.

I don't know mate its 50/50 I probably edge Farooq but McGregor is big and strong and pretty relentless at times, the good thing is I think it will happen sooner rather than later

McGregor beats Farooq imo no doubt, Lee is big, strong & relentless, (nothing to do with boxing but a really great kid also) he’s eager and willing to learn, the only productive criticism/thing I have to say or negative for me is it might be a problem at world level (where I believe and always have said before he turned pro he will be) is that even though he has snap in his punches he isn’t a big puncher with enough to really make the elite world fighters worry to much about but his size and work might be enough to navigate him through that, he definitely needs to be a bit more defensive minded but most come forward fighters are guilty of neglecting that, they have attack in their mind and forget about shots coming back, well done Lee, onto the next one mate :TU:

McGregor just got a reality check with this fight. Not a particularly good call by the referee and Allan can feel a bit hard done by IMO.

I expected McGregor to walk through Allan but that didn't turn out to be the case, but hopefully he learned plenty.

I'd still pick McGregor over Farooq at the moment, but I'm seeing it differently now.

Benson was given an absolute gift of a win over Garrido. The Frenchman fully deserved to win the fight.

Cracking stoppage by Kieran Smith.
