If the boxing genie appeared....

Thought I needed to start a thread of some kind for my 1000th post.

If a boxing genie appeared and asked me for 3 boxing related wishes in 2005, what would they be?

Felix Trinidad to get a rematch with Bernard Hopkins and knock him out. Nothing against Hoppo who I think is an absolute modern legend but I just love Tito, the most exciting boxer of modern times. Sure fighters like Gatti are involved in even more thrilling slugfests but Trinidad just mixes it with superb accuracy and class. Tito as the undisputed Middleweight champ would be just dandy.

Danny Williams to knock out Vitali Klitschko. I don't think he will but this is my 3 wishes and this is a UK boxing fan speaking. It would be a great shot in the arm for British boxing after our truly big stars (Lennox and Naz) have gone for good. Maybe not great for the world Heavyweight boxing picture as a whole but still great for the domestic scene and would ensure some more big fight nights. Also not in 2005 but I'm bringing it forward a month.

Ricky Hatton to somehow get himself in the genuine Light-Welter world title mix with the likes of Tyszu/Mitchell/Cotto/Judah/Mayweather/Gatti/Harris (see there are so many of them I don't see how a fight can't be made). He would have to leave allegedly to do it which is kind of a fourth wish but here's hoping....

To my fellow posters:

999 posts in appoximately 427 days equates to about 2.34 posts per day. Some of them brilliant :D , some just genius :o , most just drivel  but hey thanks for indulging me. It's been emotional.... :TU:

Well done Goz, always been a pleasure conversing with you.

Alot of my dream fights are happening - Williams vs Klitchko, Pacquio vs JMM II, MAB vs Morales 3, Johnson vs Tarver.

Mine would be

1) Williams to beat Klitchko.

2) Ricky Hatton to fight Vivian Harris - thats a cracking contest in the making.

3) Gatti, Mayweather, Tszyu, Cotto to mix it up in a Light Welterweight title semi final and then final.

BTW, Goz - What has Bernard done to you!

Cheers Stu, of course if we were talking a really cool genie who allowed absolutely anything, really of the wall stuff, Muhammed Ali conquering Parkinson's Disease and running for President in 2008 and Marvin Hagler coming back and thrashing Hopkins, Trinidad and De La Hoya would also be pretty cool.

I am easily pleased so i would ask the genie to force all weight champions to unify and face each other in a series of box off's...any who refused would be immediately plunged into the gorge of eternal peril (see Monty Python's Holy Grail)

(2) Cotto V Maywether
(3) Hatton fights the winner of No.2.

Im rubbing the magic bottle as we speak

1) Tyson - Williams rematch for the WBC Title in the UK

2) Harrison - Chi would be classic war

3) The banning of all so called world belts other than the main 3

Congrats Goz.

I'd just wish for all the top guys to fight each other in the space of the next couple of years. No pussy-footing around, no money issues, no blatantly avoiding the danger-men, just the best fighting the best.

No more wishes, i reckon that one's big enough to cancel out my other two.

Oh, and maybe a genuine world champion from these shores. If the genie's feeling generous. :TU:

Ray Leonard v Ray Robinson @ 147
Duran v Aaron Pryor @ 135
Hagler v Monzon

All at their peaks. I'd probably keel over from a heart attack if they were all on the same bill, so consecutive weekends would be best.
A time machine would obviously be involved.

Anyone seen that real life advert in the American classifieds?

WANTED - ENTHUSIASTIC PERSON TO ACCOMPANY ME TRAVELLING IN MY TIME MACHINE. MUST BRING OWN WEAPON.

Nice one Goz, always enjoy reading your posts.

My first wish would be to have a legitimate British world champion, we ain't had one for 4 years now, and I'd love some big fights over here where the big names and networks come over. It's been too long.

Secondly, for the light-welter scene to be cleared up, culminating in a Mayweather - Cotto MEGA-fight late in 2005. Imagine it happnened in the Roberto Clemente Stadium, dual headlining with the Hopkins - Tito rematch. Image

Thirdly, for Ringside to return and do profiles on British/Commonwealth/EBU champions. Ed Robinson did a very short one on Dazzo Williams last night, but it felt like a few years ago when these sort of things were regular: going to the guys house for an interview, showing him in training etc. Not that grand a last wish, but I like those sort of things.
