He certainly does. I’m impressed by him, I‘d never heard of him pre-Fury. He seems a sound bloke too.

From wikipedia. I like him, talks sense.
"My Dad boxed as an amateur and I was involved in boxing since before I could walk," Davison told ESPN. "I then boxed as an amateur but then I played football at a decent level for Stevenage. "I was on and off with boxing and then Billy Joe Saunders asked me to work for him. I had to make a decision and to be honest, I've had much more emotional pleasure from training. I've found my niche and I'm lucky to have done so."

Boxing history is littered with Hall-of-Fame trainers who haven’t laced up gloves in the professional ranks. Just to name a few; Cus D’Amato, Ray Arcel, Emanuel Steward, Angelo Dundee, Virgil Hunter, Joe Gossen, Enzo Calzaghe and Teddy Atlas.
Actually, come to think of it, it's probably easier to list coaches that never fought professionally, as opposed to those that had successful boxing careers at world-level in the pro ranks.
So it doesn’t surprise me to see non-pugilists (as in competing as a pro), like Ben Davison, achieving success training professional fighters.

I recall a lot of people were critical of Fury taking him on because he basically had a fitness/nutrition background but he really seems to be doing well...

Yep, I’ll admit I had my doubts. Happy to be proved wrong though, I‘m a big Fury fan.

A lot of guys are coming into the sport through different avenues., im not one of those who thinks a trainer gotta be punched in the nose to tell a fighter how it feels but they gotta be comin into the sport with a decent background and a degree of intelligence. As much as they talk about “having a plan” in a fight, fighters like BJS n fury change a fight round themselves or at least know wot they should be doin even if they can’ do it. Their confidence comes rom been in top physical condition which obviously this chap specialises in. As some1 said earlier.. 1st time they dip.. he’s gone.

Fury seems to have Ricky Hatton in his team these days. I assume he provides advice from an ex fighter's perspective.

Tyson Fury trains at Ricky Hatton's gym. 'The Hitman' only performs a supportive role for his mate, since Ben Davison is Fury's coach.

Sorry, I forgot to provide a link to the article confirming this. Team Fury essentially confirmed what you wrote verbatim.
