Walsh defends his British Featherweight title against unbeaten Edinburgh boxer Paulin on the Davies/Vazquez card on IFL this Friday, Paulin took the unbeaten record of another good Scotsman Tiffney who i rated pretty well but apart from that there's nothing on there, as I say though I respect the win over Tiffney, he beat him fairly wide as well
Walsh must be one of the longest reigning British champs in the last 10 years, he's had countless British/Commonwealth/European title fights, I'm surprised he hasn't pushed on again since the European title loss to Ceylan, he's coming off the SD win over Bellotti, an IJL special that one, I'm pretty sure he was the only one who never thought Walsh won it at a breeze
Paulin only has 3KOs in his 12 wins so could be a technical battle, looking forward to it, Scottish boxing going through a bit of a boom just now, cant remember us having so much talent around

Walsh wins this one by stoppage. Too much experience for paulin. Paulin done alot of sparring in Dundee and hes really good old but he was lucky on the Ricky burns card I thought he got beat from Brad botham and was dropped quite heavy. Rooting for him though

Walsh on a wide points decision. Bellotti win showed he is a level above. Rematch lowe next and the winner in a very good position in terms of world rankings

Theres no footage on Paulin so it's hard to know what to expect. Walsh is pretty solid but I don't like how he doesn't step on the gas at times.

Walsh is a weird one with me, think he fights to the level of his opponents somewhat. Think if he was pressured his cardio would fail him.

He is just underwhelming. I was excited about him after the Selby fight when he had a few KOs and looked to be improving but he's had some boring fights now and I'm not really enthused to watch him going through the motions for 12 rounds again. He needs a performance that catches the eye and makes people want to see him fight again. However, I'm pretty sure he labours to a dull points will where he probably could have forced a stoppage but won't.

Walsh seems to have been at domestic level since the dawn of time. I can't see him excelling when he steps up towards euro/world level.
Not that he isn't a good fighter, because he is. Just that usually when fighters spend too long at a certain level, the step up becomes more difficult.

I think he first fought for the British title after Howard Winstone vacated?...

Walsh is going to lose at this level pretty soon. No killer instinct and happy to piss around for the fight. Complains that nobody wants to fight him but why would they? He's boring as hell and puts in dull performances every time out. This was a good opportunity to go for forcing a stoppage but instead we got low activity and pissing around for 12 rounds. There are very few fighters that I wouldn't mind seeing get shafted on the cards. In the bellotti and paulin fights I was genuinely hoping Walsh would get the short end of the split decision when it was being announced, even though I had him the winner. I wouldn't watch him again unless he was stepping up in class against someone I want to watch.

Official score cards:
Ian John Lewis 111-117
Mark Lyson 114-115
Marcus McDonnell 115-113
I never watched the fight, but our British judges really need to fk off. I'm sick of the BS scoring in boxing. The sport is ruined by it. That and all these stupid fking belts.

I had Walsh by a couple, but he gave up far too many rounds by just posing for long periods and getting out worked.
The rounds he won he looked pretty sharp, if he could keep up the activity for 12 rounds he would be a difficult fighter to beat.

walsh was frustrating to watch, not much of a jab and too much posturing looking for power shots. paulin looked kinda goofy but had plenty of success to make it close

The cards up now, just watched the fight there, close fight but not a classic by any means, still got to be impressed with Paulin's effort I thought he nicked it 115-113, Walsh was the stronger man and landed the better quality shot, got through with some nice body shots, he just doesn't do enough, coasts and Paulin had the workrate to beat him IMO, he wasn't as strong as Walsh but he really steps in with that southpaw jab, brought the left hands over and put some nice combinations together which bothered Walsh and TBH I was surprised how easy Paulin was able outbox Walsh in there, he set a good pace and apart from the last round finished in control I thought

I had it the same Paulin 115-113 ; he won the bout alone on his jab and work rate , the 117-111 to Walsh was a joke card no way he won 9 rounds .
Walsh seems dead at the weight can’t sustain any sort of tempo when he does let them go he looks good and strong , Paulin will come again
