Amir Khan will now fight Australian Billy Dibb after his clash with Neeraj Goyat was cancelled with his opponent involved in a horrific car crash.



The pair were meant to face off on July 12 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in what had been billed as an 'India vs Pakistan' boxing match, but Goyat will not be able to take part after 'severe injuries to his head, face and arm'.

A statement has been released by Bill Dosanjh, the promoter of the Super Boxing League, explaining they will now need to find a replacement for Goyat.

So Dibb retired as a super featherweight over a year ago? Fair enough he may have put weight on, but this is a bit too much of a mismatch.

Kinda like Mayweather fighting Tenshin.

I do have a feeling they had Dibb waiting on the sidelines. They’ve announced him so quick.

Fair play to him. He can fight who he wants. He's achieved what he wanted. He may still want a world title at 147, but he probably knows he can't. If the Arabs are gonna pay him daft money, then fair play to him.

Also the last fight, Crawford only received $6m

The 33-year-old Dib (45-5, 26 KOs) most recently scored a first-round knockout of Thailand’s Surachet Tongmala (7-12, 4 KOs) on April 26 in Hurstville, Australia.

Dib met Tongmala at the lightweight limit of 135 pounds. Khan and Goyat were scheduled to box at welterweight, 12 pounds higher.

The weight limit for the Khan-Dib bout has not yet been revealed.

The 32-year-old Khan, even coming off a technical-knockout loss to Terence Crawford two months ago at Madison Square Garden, would’ve represented a steep step up in competition for the 27-year-old Goyat. In his most recent fight, a six-rounder, Goyat beat 40-year-old Mexican Carlos Lopez Marmolejo (9-7-1, 5 KOs) by unanimous decision in Toronto.

Khan accepted their bout, which would’ve matched a fighter of Pakistani descent against an Indian boxer, because it would’ve paid the former IBF/WBA 140-pound champion a seven-figure purse.

The only selling point for the original fight was India vs Pakistan so it’s unfortunately lost that now. Terrible shame for Goyat, hopefully he makes a full recovery because it sounds incredibly serious.

As a Muslim there are obviously still seven million reasons why Khan wants to fight in Jeddah and it is history making. I bet Danny Williams didn’t get quite as much when he headlined the first pro boxing event in Dubai a few years ago...

Just gonna say this. How the hell did Billy Dibb ever become a name in Boxing anyway? Seems to me he's been sorta a name in the sport for about 10 years or so...but why? I can't think of any noteworthy accomplishment to his credit. Am I missing something?

Seriously. Does anyone have an answer to the question of why Billy Dib is a name in the sport? I assume he was an amateur star or something? Because he damn sure ain't done sh*t in the Professional ranks to have gotten the kinda notoriety that he inexplicably seems to have.

Dude was in Fight Night Champion too for f*cks sake, and basically I only know him for losing title fights.

If I don't get an answer in this thread by the end of the day I seriously might do that because I've long wondered why all the attention and focus on this guy who has never to my eyes done anything to deserve it.

I mean he seems like a decent fighter, and all, but nothing really better than average, but for some reason he's gotten star treatment....or at least name treatment.

No clue as to whether or not he was in reserve or not. I'm just mystified as to why he's a name in the sport or ever was.

He’s a former IBF world champion. The same belt Josh Warrington is holding today.
