IMO Witherspoon would stop him in 6-8 rounds.

Witherspoon by late KO sounds probable indeed. Tim just had more of a class.

Yeah, him and Page also. Tim went on to have a better career than both of them.

Gerry, in his prime,- by KO- scoring massively with his overpowering left hooks!

Witherspoon had one of the best chins of the top heavies of that time period. And Gerry not going to do anything to dent it.

I side with those who think Witherspoon wins this by KO early.

I favor Witherspoon by late knockout.
No way is Tim taking Cooney out early. We are not talking the over the hill rusty Cooney of Foreman or Spinks.

So many in favor of Witherspoon.He was a decent fighter.Big strong,good jab and right hand.Good chin.But I remember the powerpunching but slow Bonecrusher Smith flying across at the opening bell,clubbing Witherspoon into a stoppage.Cooney was bigger faster and punched harder and very capable of koing Witherspoon.Cooney had his faults and will never be a hall of famer but definitely deserves his credit as a much better fighter than credit given. Cooney impressive win

Maybe maybevnot.I remember him complaining afterwards that Don King or someone sold him out,telling Smith to jump on him causevyou could see he was cold with no perspiration.Regardless I think Cooney takes him .

He went down to get away from king. Smith never fazed him for a second in the first fight. I don't see cooney having even a punchers chance against peak spoon

He was just a lot better than cooney.

This bout would be a disaster for Cooney, who was hittable and who lacked durability. Spoon would take control with his left jab immediately, and shortly after that, he'd score the KO with a huge right hand. Not a good match up for Gerry.
