Michael Buffer

What actually does Michael buffer bring to a boxing event? Surely the 'once fashionable' Buffer with his trade mark 'Lets get ready to rumble' has passed its sell by date and he must cost a fortune just to mc on a main event.

I just dont see what he brings to a fight in 2019 as his copyrighted jingle is like an Eternal Bow dinner set.

Reduce ticket prices by getting rid of the old codger for eff sake.

Agree totally and said the same to my missus at the start of the fight. Also think it is disrespectful to Diamante. Arrogance by Buffer: "Fly me over. I will sit here all night. Be paid a fortune but only bother my arse to climb the steps for the last couple fights."

I honestly thought when I clicked the link it was going to confirm he'd died. How old is the stuff these days?

He adds zero. Waste of money. He's a marketing tool. If the stuff is involved it creates the illusion of a big occasion to those of us who remember the big fight nights from the late 80's / 90's. Just a shortcut in creating subliminal buzz

I'm amazed Ant&Dec didn't ruin his career.

Used to love it as a kid, maybe that’s because it was a one off or every now and then at superfights that I saw him. Now he turns up for a midlands intercontinental area title eliminator it seems

Don’t even need to bother about getting the names correct either

He was smart enough to own the rights to; " let's get ready for apple crumble"
So you have to have him.

From the interwebby...

How much does Michael Buffer make to say "Let's get ready to rumble"? Depending on the match, Buffer typically earns between $25,000 and $100,000 every time he utters those five famous words. On a handful of extremely rare occasions, Buffer has been paid $1 million.

Net worth $400m

He earned a huge amount lending his " apple crumble" to a video game. As in millions.

Him and Bruce are a weirdly interesting story. Making millions of their voices, meeting in unlikely scenarios and copyrighting a phrase which kinda by chance has made millions. Don't know much about Michael as a person but Bruce seems like a wanker.

In addition i'm not one that cares much about the presentation of boxing events but Diamante seems to be a very capable announcer for any boxing match regardless of calibre in my opinion. If it was a to save the attending spectators a few pound per person to use Diamante instead of Buffer, it would be a perfectly reasonable option in my opinion, but i fear that it's because Buffer is known to US fans for the DAZN show rather than the UK Sky show.

Love these threads. Wildly varying estimates as to what he earns / what he’s worth alongside fairly harsh but true critiques of his “contribution”, usually rounded off by way of a comparison with Buffer by someone posting a link to the eternally hilarious Smith v Dodson introductions.

Yep, I used to love - Let’s get ready to rumble - back in the 90s. It’s past it’s sell-by now though. No harm to Buffer, I just think he’s been at it for too long.
