Great Stuff! The 4 horsemen of the division, those 2 and AJ and Fury.
Re: Wilder & Ruiz Interview On PBC
That's because these forums are majority UK. UK fans are die hard UK fighters above all else. Not all but most.

I note the sarcasm. But when you look at fighters who were embraced by America, Lennox Lewis; Roberto Duran; Chavez; Wlad Klitchko even. They are an international bunch. At least more so than UK.SenorPipino wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 18:57Yes. Americans are hardly as jingoistic when supporting its fighters.
We barely even think about their nationality. Just fighters to us.

Yes. Americans are hardly as jingoistic when supporting its fighters.
We barely even think about their nationality. Just fighters to us.
In the Philippines, Pacquiao winning a fight is a matter of life and death. National prestige and honor.
In social media, it's common for a UK fan to savagely berate another Brit for criticizing a UK fighter and expressing hope that he loses.
"What the eff is wrong with you? You're supposed to support one of your own" is a frequent retort.
But you don't hear that from American fans. We seldom ever consider a fighter's nationality.
Last night, foreign fans and foreign media referred to Thurman as "the American."
How often to we think of him that way?Or any other American fighter for that matter? He's just a fighter. We don't embrace Thurman for his nationality.
Only at the Olympics do American fans get nationalistic. Otherwise it's not on our radar.
Re: Wilder & Ruiz Interview On PBC
I stand corrected. I'm sure you'll get some cheeky responses from our brethren across the pond. I was braced for it as well, which explains my initial response.SenorPipino wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 19:36No, I was dead serious. Your sarcasm detector malfunctioned.

tbf no hate really in this thread
the thing with america---is its the worlds biggest global fight country. you have the biggest stars from all over go there to fight if they reach a highest level. i think it attracts a global pool of talent in a way no other country does, so over time youve gotten lots of international fighters and flavors--a global mix in the way you dont in other places. and not really focused just on the usa as nationality.
things also get broken down more in the usa. simply being an american may not mean much, but being a mexican american does imo for example

Depending on the traffic analysis tool being used, between 15% to 22% of the BoxRec website visitors are from the UK.
I strongly suspect that more BoxRec website traffic is sourced by visitors residing in former Eastern Bloc countries (i.e. Russia, Germany, Poland etc.) than the UK.

Can this suspicion be backed up with facts?Enlightened-One wrote: ↑22 Jul 2019, 20:25Depending on the traffic analysis tool being used, between 15% to 22% of the BoxRec website visitors are from the UK.

It would only take you a few seconds to verify the figures I’ve cited.greg wrote: ↑22 Jul 2019, 21:09Can this suspicion be backed up with facts?Enlightened-One wrote: ↑22 Jul 2019, 20:25

The aggregate total visitors from the Eastern Bloc countries I cited is pretty much on a par with the UK, but I didn’t bother to check the stats for the others.

Why don’t you give us a break-down country wise since you have tools and knowledge? Thank you.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑22 Jul 2019, 21:13It would only take you a few seconds to verify the figures I’ve cited.

Interesting comments.
Personally I think the majority of British boxing fans are quite cautious and critical of British fighters in the main. The jingoistic ones would tend to be the casual population who like to jump on bandwagons while the going is good.

Re: Wilder & Ruiz Interview On PBC
hardcore fans at least are a different breed. brits on boxing forums are defo critical much of the time of home guys. its true a lot of the time with hardcores wherever they are
i think part of that is that hardcores have the knowledge to know that a lot of the time certain networks/hype machines etc are basically shoving dishonesty and bias down there throats. and so over time you get the desire for these backed fighters to take a loss
still, with the usa, and among 'general ' fans, i think because of such a global fight culture, there is more of an attitude of the 'the world is here' instead of 'us vs the world' compared to other countiries

Yeah I can relate to that. The longer you watch boxing and have seen how things play out the more convincing you need of someone's often prematurely stated greatness.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑23 Jul 2019, 17:29 hardcore fans at least are a different breed. brits on boxing forums are defo critical much of the time of home guys. its true a lot of the time with hardcores wherever they are

Some fighters come along and you just know they're the real deal from the start. But they're few and far between
Re: Wilder & Ruiz Interview On PBC
I think that the Americans are pretty much as nationalist as any other boxing fans.
For example think about how huge Wlad Klitchko would have been if he was from the states?
Was hes fights even shown in that side of the pond?
If Wilder was protected hype job from Germany would anyone even know him?
Hes only call for fame is beating old man Ortiz in life and death struggle and controversial draw with fat and rusty Fury. Who do you think would have won if that fight was in UK?
There are loads of other examples like this ones...

But, saying that Wilder ain't "The Real Deal" and calling him out on who he fought is just plain fanboyism. He fought who ever he got in front of him, and he have beaten most of them exception to Fury. But! He has knockdown everybody that have shared the ring with him.
He is one of the top guys and I don't think he dodges anybody, his team protects him thou. That we saw in the Ortiz-fight, when he got a breather after getting beaten up by Ortiz. Then again, Wilder could have handel it either way.
