No Matter How Many Times I Fight Him, I Can't Beat This Guy

I know that there are examples of foes fighting more than 3 times, and one was clearly the better fighter head to head. One example is this one:

Archie Moore couldn't handle the great Ezzard Charles. Charles whupped him 3 times. The last time they fought, Charles proved his superiority by knocking out The Ol' Mongoose.

Another example:
Pipino Cuevas fought Angel "El Cholo" Espada 3 times for the WBA World Welterweight Crown. Cuevas knocked Espada out 3 times.

Hasim Rahman could never beat Oleg Maskaev.

Coming into their first fight Rahman had full training camp, while Maskaev, who was late replacement for Ziljko Mavrovic, had very short camp. Yet, he still brutally KTFO'ed Rhaman in much worse way than anybody else ever did (including Lennox Lewis).

Coming into the rematch Rahman was on the great run, he was at his prime at 33 y.o. and this time he definitely didn't underestimate Oleg. But 37 y.o. washed up Maskaev still knocked out Rahman. After the fight Rahman admitted he was in the best shape possible both mentally and physicalle, but still lost. He said Maskaev would probably somehow find a way to beat him in 100 fights out of 100.

Haven't watch those fights in full in decades. I believe you may be correct.

I remember a boxing mag headline, "Ali Knows I Beat Him Twice, Says Norton Seeking 3."

I've watched the third fight several times. Mostly scored it a draw. Never for Ali though.

Not a three time or more encounter so slightly cheating.....

…..but Groves just could not get past either a hot or off-the-boil Froch.
Just all wrong for Groves for some reason and Carl somehow wins despite Groves being a constant threat.

Sid Smith was considered a very good fighter but couldn’t do much with Jimmy Wilde losing three times via KO.

Jeez, imagine fighting someone and you lose, only to have to fight him again another 9 times. I'd think after 2-3 losses you just stop trying [as much]?

Yeah I don't know if Patterson would've ever even managed to make it to the 5th round against Liston. He would've had to be in absolute retreat, and survival mode to even do that.

I imagine you'd be motivated for each rematch so long as you felt you'd genuinely improved yourself, sometimes you can feel that you've become better, and would love the chance at a rematch. I imagine by about loss #4 or 5 though the reality that this guy is just better than you has surely set in.

I mean that could've been done surely. He would just need to stay the f*ck away from Liston like his health depended on it....because it does

Second fight was a relative slugfest.
