LEWIS/WILDER....... seriously?

Brutal. There are reasons that there are “professional” fight commentators and colour analysts. These two are absolutely awful, get them both away from the mic. It really is mind-boggling.

I agree it's a hard listen. Wilder has personality but I don't feel a commentary roll suits him---it was better for Pac-Thurman when they'd just go to him and Mancini for short bits. Lewis has always been mediocre at best on mic. Very few fighters really excel at commentary.

How do you feel about Bradley and Ward?

I think they are generally pretty good. They can put their words together better and IMO have better insights. Shawn Porter did some of the Pac-Thurman card and he was better than Wilder and Lewis too. Jacobs and Barry Jones are okay with no glaring flaws but no big strengths either really.. Paulie's good for a fighter but talks a bit much sometimes .Froch sucks. Andy Lee is good and one of the most balanced I've seen.
BJ Flores has excellent vocal flow and is a true commentary speaker, but I find him to be pretty biased.

Bradley & Ward are a better commentary team than Wilder & Lewis but they both have a lot more commentator experience than Wilder. They are also more technical fighters than Wilder so they can give better analysis of the strategies of fighters they are commentating about. Wilder will get better with more experience on the microphone but at least he has an enthusiasm about the job and loves to talk. Lennox has a rather dull voice and IMO is too laid back to be a good commentator.

"What do you think, Lennox? He's losing bad. What can he do?"
Lewis: "He needs to go back to the gym and work on some things."

I shut the sound off for most of the fight. Generally I prefer to watch fights with foreign language broadcasters that I can't understand compared with the babbling on of the American commentators. Where are the boxing announcers of yesteryear who just broadcast the fight, like, "It's a left and a right and a left and a right ...and he's down!"...?

I normally mute the tv if I'm at home.
I can't stand the bias of the announcers

Oh yes the bias for the house fighter that too - the whole crew piles on, the ref, the judges, the announcers, the ring doctor...the only ones they haven't signed up yet are the ring card girls!

Lewis is generally ok as a color commentator. Wilder was just weird. Roy Jones was good, as was Tarver.

Proud of Lewis for not saying definitely every point, now wilder says most definitely.

When I saw the thread title I thought they'd agreed to fight!
I was relieved for Wilder that they weren't.

Foreman was very good but he was too honest. The last thing they want is an on air person who is honest.

People gave me plenty of S on here for liking Foreman, I also miss Merchant - the little firecracker.
Who has surprised me the most in recent times...Ward. I didn’t like watching him in the ring but enjoy his commentary. He knows his stuff intimately. Happily listen to more of him. On the other hand I can’t stand his trainer Virgil Hill who doesn’t seem to know his stuff.

In before me: I was just going to post that Roy Jones was good. If you listen to his commentary on the US broadcast of Froch-Groves 2 he’s talking tactics and strategy and has figured out what Froch is doing pretty early on. I haven’t listened to much other stuff that he’s done but he was absolutely spot on there.
I only watched the highlights for this and didn’t know it was Wilder. I don’t know why they used him as he’s a terrible talker. He doesn’t know the meaning of some words he uses and uses words that don’t exist.

Completely agree about missing Merchant. As for Foreman, he had personality but was basically always wrong. They'd be watching something like Floyd Mayweather dominating every split second of a fight and George would chime in like "boy I'll tell ya, Floyd better be careful with this kid! This kid can really bang!" Pretty sure he is being careful, George.
Generally, the boxers shouldn't be on the mic. I wish one of these networks would just go for broke and try to scoop up the whole old HBO announcing team.

Tarver was decent for a fighter, though like many other boxers ocassionally made up some new words
