Browsing through the weekends results and came across this...........

Bob Ajisafe won TKO 6th round against Genadij Krajevskij

Ajisafes record: 19 wins, 3 losses

Krajevskijs record: 0 wins, 7 losses

Kravjevskis first bout in December of last year was at 155.5lb. In May he boxed at 165lb. Last night he weighed 182lb, some 2 stone heavier!

(Bob Ajisafe had his first bout at 182lb)

Another one at the end of August on a Steve Wood show is Mark Heffron won 23 out of 24 against Eric Nwankwo won 1 out of 6 strong but very limited ability with zero defence , this bout should not be allowed

I was ringside at Oldham on Saturday night and whilst Ajisafe ( very much avoided ) was in control from start to finish in a tick over fight waiting to get another opportunity on a bigger show I certainly don’t consider this an example of unsafe matchmaking.
I’ve seen Krajevskij ( the Baltic bomber ) on a couple of occasions and despite his journeyman record he’s tough , durable and game as they come . He was extremely unlucky not to see the final bell getting
caught and stopped by the referee within seconds of it.
Vip normally upload fights to YouTube so soon you will probably be able to make an informed and fair assessment.

These sort of one sided fights are extremely common .
A better example this weekend for me would be the Chief support on sky sports live Friday night.
Robbie Davies Jnr , the current British, Commonwealth and European champion beat up a 36year old Czech lad who’s got just 22 losses to his record .
That’s in no way a cheap shot at him , he can only beat who’s put in front of him but Sky Sports is supposedly the premier platform for the sport !

I would call that match up a joke but its not funny, Davies won the EBU title just a few months before, why the hell was he put in that fight?

I felt the same about a Catterall fight a couple months back.

Surely they could find better opponents for tick over fights, particularly if they are televising them.

I don't mind the Ajisafe one as much as they probably don't make the money to get anyone better in for him.

Warren and Hearn have no excuses. With less and less UK shows on tele every week the least they can do is put semi competitive fights on the cards they do have.

It was obviously done so they can sell a Davies vs. Ritson fight

Because Hearn is crapping himself about another upset so matches Davies with a flyweight.

Laughably bad match for all concerned, and still gobshite Davies has the nerve to criticise Reston’s opponents after !

No excuse though is it? Could they not have found someone at least at domestic level for him to fight.

Ritson was due to fight Hughes initially, which is fine, his opponent in the end was a bit crap but he was a last minute replacement and would probably be the favourite if he ever fought Davies' opponent.

I FOOOOOOOKIN HATE mismatches with a passion , , , but above all WHY do promoters pay for it , Why put your money behind someone who needs to be looked after so much that you have to get him blatant mismatches .

I think people forget what there job is , and that is simple

A trainers job is too prepare his fighter to the best of both there abilities .

A managers job , is to get his fighter the easiest fight possible , for the most money he can score .

A promoters job is to put on the best fights possible for the paying public , for the least money .

Quite simple really , UNTILL promoters start becoming managers and vice verca

This match was nothing out of the ordinary and the Baltic Bomber gave a good account of himself only being stopped on his feet (complaining) with 30 seconds to go-in fact this type of match takes place on shows up and down the country each week. Just look at the records of most of the UK's prospects and check their opponents stats and you'll see this is a very very common occurrence. Records can be very deceiving and look at who Krajevskij has been in with.

My mate went to the event, local to us. Supporting Aqib Fiaz.

He said Sam Eggington as on the card. defeated Lewis van Poetsch (9-107-2)..

Do we call that a mismatch?

I'm not suggesting the match was out of the ordinary and it's got zero to do with how the match appeared to unfold.

Records may be deceiving but it would be nigh on impossible to argue that it was a safe match should something go seriously wrong and the 'lesser' man on paper was seriously hurt.

There are far, far too many mismatches made on boxing cards in this country, at all levels it seems.

In a lot of instances, lads are brought in as opponents, lacking either the ability or the desire to beat the home fighter (or both).

Entire cards are made of these types of "contest".

That'll be £40 please.

No idea.. maybe just keeping busy.. one of those fights where weight isn’t a concern.

It was an on the day weigh in Sam did a check weigh in day before at 11.3 but knew Pooch was gonna be around 12ish so that was what he weighed at 5 oclock on the day.
Just staying busy and keeping his hands moving rather than sitting waiting for a fight.

No, but it's the boxing equivalent of paying good money to see Madonna miming to a backing track.

Some folk would have paid for tickets thinking there was a chance that they'd see two boxers trying to win. It's a long standing problem and one of the reasons I no longer go to shows.

Thanks for that mate. Eggy's still a young guy, just think he needed a bit of time out from tough fights and a refreshing.

Is it ever awkward or different from other spars to spar someone you've already fought?

Nah Sam and Liam had sparred loads of rounds before they fought and Liam asked last week if he could come up and spar as he needed good rounds.
Sam did lots of rounds with Frankie after they fought and quite a few rounds with brad skeete after they fought its no big deal.
