If these 2 had fought in the 80-81 time period, who wins?

A close call.

As i notice a lot of Cooney haters.Cooney lacked confidence.But had more than enough to hammer Coetzee who also lacked confidence.Can you imagine Cooney getting beat by a blown up middleweight like Barkley? Cooney keeps ripping that left til Coetzee slumping in a corner saved as his men throw in the towel.When Cooney came to fight ,he was a lethal weapon.

This one could go either way, but I lean towards Coetzee. I say that because Gerrie was a faster than Cooney with his hands and his feet. Gerrie could also be a competent boxer, dancing and moving laterally on his feet. On top of that, Coetzee had good bombing power in either hand, particularly his right.

Whichever one of these guys landed the first big power shot would the winner. I sense that would Gerrie, given that Cooney's defense wasn't that good. Coetzee could dance away from Cooney's lethal left hooks if worse came to worse. But I can't picture Cooney eluding Coetzee's big right hand.
